Steering Wheel Controls and Neons

ive got neons in the front in the foot wells and they work fine. i also have my aftermarket steering controls hooked up to my headunit, they also normally work fine.

however now, when i have the neons on and try and use the steering controls they do not respond or they only respond one in every 10 / 15 times.

any ideas what it could be?

I'm tempted to add a bright LED wired to the courtesy light, cant see a fecking thing at night with loose change in there :(
