View Full Version : footwell neon help
right, had 2 sets of neons in my footwells so far, and have bridged them off the electrics to the cig lighter.
they work fine for a while, each set worked for around a month or so, then they just stopped, the transformer box has blown on both of them as it reeks of burning.
any help / ideas / better neons?

ebuyer do good neons aswell for lil cash :)
cheers i'll do that when i go home and get some new ones......
think another problem might be that the white cables provided on them aren't long enough to wire them where i want, so i'm having to use another length of cable to get them in place, will the thickness of the wire make any difference? or where i wire them up to on the cig lighter???
i know there's a tutorial but i've followed it both times and i'm still getting nacked neons lol. cheers for the help - i'm a noob

naaa no noob
yeahhh get loads, its the way forward lol
urm not to sure, because ive extended the live and earth rather than chopping up the acuall neon wire, i didnt wanna mess about with that. but i cant cant see why it would make a difference aslong as the wires meant for 12v use.
tho tell a lie i did it once, it worked, but i then cracked the neon itself.
as far as wiring to the actualy cig lighter im not sure ive just got a four adaptor and hidden it under the handbrake and gear gaiter = laziness
hmmmm cheers. where'd everyone else get theirs from??? anybody know where i can get some with enough cable length on them to do no hacking and splicing wires.

My fiance did this and ended up burning his wires out (he thought his car was going to go up!) he thinks its because of the thickness of wire but he has not tried to sort the problem out incase the problem re occurs!

this happend to me the other night except my lights have only been in for a week or so lol, i was gutted. I have a spair black box (transformer box?) thing in the house, do you think if I replaced the one in just now with the new one they would work? Mine dont smell of burning right enough but havent been in the car alot as rear spring has snapped :(

i think thats just the standard length tbh mate. surely theres adaptors for hte cilps sumwhere tho?
its a possibility........never thought about it..........might as well just use standard connectors or crimps though.

not really :) hmm if that works thats exactly what ive needed in mine for a good age or two:|
well i know its a 4 plug adapter but theres nothing to stop you leaving to empty.
would make it a nice clean job
I just have mine wired up as-per the tutorial on here with the switch in the cig lighter. If you push the inverter (the wee black box) as far back under the gaitor as you can they should reach the footwells no problem (mine do :D)

I just fitted mine. But being well clumsy i managed to pull one of the white wires out of the neon, but it still works. I cant get my head round it.
The thickness of wire between the neon And the inverter ( black box as you guys call them ) will make a difference, this is mainly because the voltage is changed in this black box which means the voltage running through the white wires will be different.

I've just bought two sets off eBuyer but only one has a switch and sticky pads. Should I contact them about it or do they only send a switch and pads with each order :??! Can't see why they'd do that though.
