My headunit keeps resetting the time when I turn it off, none of the other settings are being lost though.. Anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?
The headunit is Blaupunkt Kingston MP47.
Swap the red and yellow power cables at the back of the headunit over.
i.e. red to yellow, yellow to red

How? Cut them where they go into the block and join them to each other?
I noticed that it also loses what track you was on, so starts cd's from the start each time.
It doesn't seem to lose them if you turn the headunit back on shortly after turning it off. Only if you leave it. :?

Correct!!
Usually the loom has conntectors so you can do it without having to cut anything. Have a look

what he said
most have bullet connectors on
otherwise, cut twist/soilder
it swaps the ignition with the permenant feed!

Oh ok. I'll have a look tomorrow. Can't be bothered to go look in the dark.

ah. does that mean i will be able to use the headunit without starting the car too?
cause that is annoying. :\

depends on the headunit
dont think so. You should be able to do that now actually lol seen as though at the mo your permanant feed is connected to the ignition!

mine had this problem best thing to do if you dont have bullet conectors on the loom cut the two wires and put in a pair of bullet conectors which isnt a hard job(i got mine from machine mart for 60p) so it can be put back if you sell the head unit

you need to put some silicon grease on the flux capacitator connections. should sort your problem.

i might just use scotch locks as i already have some of them, and cba to go to shops. :P

ok ill try that.
Haha, same happened to me, just trial and error. Reason it happens is:
Head unit has 2 power inputs:
1. Constant feed from battery on at all times keeping the internal clock/settings when the ignition is off
2. Ignition switched feed - only gives power when the ignition is on
By wiring them the wrong way round, the unit only has power when the ignition is on (you wired the ignition switched feed into the constant input), therefor loosing clock/settings as soon as you turn the ignition off.
Fixing this will mean:
When you turn ignition off the unit will power down, keeping settings but preventing battery drain.
Depending on model, when you turn ignition on the unit will come to life and continue playing music where you left off last time
:)

Just read this - in MOST head units, you wont be able to use the head unit without the ignition on (engine doesnt have to be running, just keys in and turned to the point where you can power the fans and use the electric windows - when all the dash lights come on.
If you do want to be able to use it with the ignition off, you need to wire BOTH the ignition switched and constant power inputs from your head unit into the constant 12v power feed from the car (2 wires into 1), but this sacrifices allowing the head unit to power off when turning the ignition off.

So how does the standard headunits do it then? They work without the ignition on, and turn off by itself when turn off car??

Sorted it out now. I got an adaptor from work (autoleads pc2044) instead of cutting the wires.
The headunit does now work without the ignition on, but the steering controls only work with ignition.
