Anyone got these:

Looking to get an install this month and these were reccomended to me. Is there much difference between these and the Type Rs besides the fact Rs are double the price?

Any help/advice would be great.

The type r's will take more power, sound better and are generally a better quality sub. I used to have one and it was great for the money. I run 1200wrms though it once and it took it all!
Ied say go with the type r tbh, how much have you got to spend on a sub ?

Ah k. Well i was quoted £120 for 2 Type Ls and £240 for Rs. Then I've gota get an amp on top of that. Not really wanting to spend too much on it, but I'm looking at around £400/500 including boxes.

Tbh, you only really need one sub. And if you were going to spend £240 on two type r's then ied go for one RE SE12...

Bloody brilliant sub, and can be picked up second hand for about £150 now too! Stick that in a ported box and it will be more than enough!

e.g. theres one for sale in Hartley Wintney for collection for £140. Bargin!

I had a single type r and a mate had a single se12, and his sounded to much clearer and better, leagues ahead of the type r imo.

Nobody needs 2 subs unless its for show purposes or they are very small subs.

Unless you are going for max SPL and your building a wall  2x 18" ftw :)

Thanks for the advice guys. So do you think I'd be better off with one of these RE SE12 then? Only wanted two because i had a sub in my old car and it just looks boring so thought about a custom layout with two. What sort of amp would you advise me on for the RE? I am totally useless when it comes to ICE if you had'nt already noticed.

Yeah the SE12 really is a great sub, really good SQ and will go loud when you want it too!

Anything that will give it 600wrms at 2ohm would be perfect :)

Cheers Coops. Oh yea and what is Sq and SPL?

SQ = Sound Quality (aim to make the music sound as accurate and good as possible)
SPL = Sound Pressure Level (aim to make it as loud as possible at a certian frequency for the highest db rating possible)
SQL = Sound Quality Level (mix of the above :P)

Ahh ok. Any advice on amps? Two way, 4 way, mono? Don't have a scoob.

You will want a mono amp, something like this...

Would be a pretty good match.

Or maybe try to get an RE 12.1 amp second hand, my mate run his SE of that and it sounded immense :D

Ive got a 12" type R sounds great

defo 1 better sub over 2 'not as good' subs. Just make sure whatever sub you get its got enough power from the amp you buy
