Ok, I have £300 to spend... I've looked everywhere I can think of, and I'm close to budget, but not quite there.

I need an ICE system for my car, everything you think I'll need, its a 05 SXI, so I need the ISO loom etc...

Heres what I want from my ICE:

Flip out touch screen - at least 6"
DVD
Ipod/usb connectivity
CD player
Radio
Steering wheel controls
Single DIN

What I dont need (but dont mind if its there:)

Loud-ness
Quality (as long as its audible...)
Major brand names (As long as it will work for a good while)
Fancy extras that arent above (GPS, bluetooth etc)

So far I've got it down to:

Fascia - £8
ISO thing with steering wheel control thing - £38
Head-unit, best I can find is this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/829-7-TFT-LCD-MOTORIZED-TV-MONITOR-USB-FM-DVD-PLAYER_W0QQitemZ130180344092QQihZ003QQcategoryZ677 72QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

But I dont know if I can keep my steering controls or connect my ipod to that... theres an awful lot of plugs on the back of that unit.... Im new...

I also need some kind of cable to connect up my ipod, could I just stick a normal optical cable in the the headphone jack then connect it up? I doubt theres an ipod cable I could buy is there?

So, my main worry is the cheap HU, anyone got any better recommendations of either new HU's or websites?

Thanks for help,

Dom

tbh mate you want that £300 to go a long way. you say you want name brand stuff, yet you are considering a no name head unit? i doubt that head unit will be of great quality. personally, i would get a cheaper, basic head unit, so you have more to spend on speakers, amps etc, and save up for a decent head unit.

I said I DIDNT want brand name stuff - purely because I know how expensive it is! :D

I dont want great quality (as long as its listenable) nor do I need it super loud, so I dont need an amp or speakers much better than the standard ones (If someone can fit them in, thats great.)

As odd is may be to say, I'm mainly finding it hard to find a basic, posh headunit - one that has the flip out screen, but not all the fancy extras that usually come with those :P

Or am I speaking nonsense...

Thanks,

Dom

 oops, misread!

i myself have an ebay cheapie double DIN touchscreen DVD jobby, and tbh i wish i had saved and got a decent one. its clunky to navigate, slow, the screen isnt great quality, and the sound quality isnt that great.

amps and speakers dont just give volume, they also greatly improve sound quality providing you feed them a good source, thats why i suggested them ;)

Kinda strange what your asking for. It seems pointless to shell out on a fancy looking HU if its only powering standard Corsa speakers. Basically u want fashion not function yeH?? Ur best bet like said, is to hold back for a bit, save your money and get an amp, front comps and HU and then further down the line consdier a sub. All your doing wen buying a fancy lookin HU is disguisin the fact that u have no decent sound quality. Listening to music thru standard speakers (although not bad compared to some other car manufacturers standard speakers) is like having a memory w**k!! It sucks and you get disappopinted!! Save money = good sounds:thumbs:

You'll want a removable faceplate or you are just asking for trouble.

Something like this:

Well you could get one like that for about £300. by the way you havent mentioned "removable face" so im guessing you wont mind it being nicked then.

If so you can try this

http://www.motor-world.co.uk/show_prod.php?prod_id=17943

7” wide screen LCD/TFT fully motorised monitor •DVD/DVD-R, DVD-RW, VCD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, MP4 Playback •Mini USB Port •SD card reader •Analogue TV tuner built in (antennae required at additional cost) •Front Aux input - allows connection of portable audio products e.g. iPod / MP3 Players •Rear RCA Input •Video in x1 / Video out x1 •Subwoofer Output •Reversing camera input socket •Pre-outs •50 Watts x4 MOSFET •Last angle memory / viewing angle adjustment •NTSC/PAL compatible •Full function remote control included •AM/FM RDS Tuner, Also comes with 1 Year Shop guarantee.

Oh and by the way you wont get Steering wheel controls on an unbranded dvd unit, cos they have no compatible stalk adaptor or patch lead.

I was worried that might happen...

Didn't even think of that... your link fits the bill very nicely...

Thanks for the help guys, a couple of opinions, so i'm still picking...
