why do they just not work?

I previosuly had aceparts for my dials, and fancied some heaters too. However I bought crazy LEDs by mistake - the result a different blue colour. Everyhting wen tin fine though.

My aceparts set finally arrived, and i expected just the same with crazy leds. But no, nothing fits, its keep wanting to pop out. I managed to press it in and get abit of a blue flicker, but as soon as i let go everything goes.

So i threw it all on the floor, angrily came on ccuk and searched. foudn that people having trouble with aceparts leds - tried peoples advice about making the hole abit bigger and messing with the wires on the LED. Nothing.

Now my left original LED wont go bac in, and if the plate where the LEDS sits is touched back slightly, it makes a 'hinge' noise and cuts ou everything :x

I had to get a crazyled smd strip in the end as the aceparts led's kept blowing a fuse.

But yes i had the same problem, had to sand the holes a bit bigger but never fitted properly.

The wedge of the smd strip is perfect.

I also bought the aceparts kit and found that the heater led's didn't fit and as you say kept popping out, even tried making the hole bigger but no luck.

Only solution what managed to work for me was to bend the 2 wires just making sure that they make contact when you insert them and a lot of messing about turning them every way until they worked, now you said you've done this so  but here's mine finished :)

how did you bend the wires mate? and how did you keep them secure?

M1ke
14-12-2007, 21:50
Just used a screwdriver or anything with a flat surface to pry them up then bend them with your fingers but be careful not to snap them as i did with a few. As for the secure part just make sure that when you put them in they touch the contacts and that should make them snug and not move.

those LEDs look really dull. the crazyled strips have about 20 LEDs and make the whole heater panel really bright!

20 odd quid for a heater strip is expensive though

well worth it IMO. why spend **** loads of cash on the car then do a half arsed job on the LEDs!

i used to have just the two leds in there and thought it was ok, then i got the strip and realised how rubbish it was!

the panel that has the actual hole in for the LEDs is playing up.

theres abit of play in it, you can slightly move it back and forwards, when i press on the whole panel I hear a electrical 'hinge' like noise and the leds dont work

then i manage to get my figer behind the side and prise it forward and I get a flicker form the blue LEDs, then they just go off, or I manage to balance them in place for 5seconds :(

It seems something is shorting behind the panel itself :?

The two strips have two wedge connectors (like the end of sidelights)

Only down side is the end of the red heater (red strip) mixes in with the blue of the middle knob making it pink.

Headunit is Kenwood w707.

mine has one wedge connector, so i left one of the led's in for the extra brightness :)

mine does the mixing thing too but it looks a little worse in your picture. probably because mine is white and red.

looks good mate.

For your heaters have you removed that plastic shield thing that covers the 2 LEDS?

I found if you remove it, it makes the dials look patchy. If you put it back in, it spreads the lights around the dials much better

Think im just gonna buy that upgraded heater smd strip thingy, cos my leds keep shorting and cutting everything out :(

figo_rulz11
16-12-2007, 20:01
ohh i didnt put it back in because i thought it would let out less light, but thanks for mentioning to me  i shall fix that tomorrow! yer i really want to buy the strip buy its £20 :( too much i think if it was £5 or something ...then fine lol.
