Ok so i finally got round to amping my components today. I bought this amp:
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-mrpf250-p-4842.html?cadid=98a75c0ccfc2264f22fa10c74b365955
and i already had these components:

Well to get the amp to output the 180 WRMS i needed some Y splitters for the RCA cables. So before going to halfords to pick some up I thought i'd wire it into the seperate channels so each speaker was getting 40WRMS. It sounded awesome, I could turn the headunit up to around 29 before i couldnt take any more.
So ive got the Y splitters and wired it up bridged at the 180WRMS now. I can now turn it up to about 24 before i cant take any more but it doesnt seem to sound as nice?
Do i lose quality when bridging? I thought if i gave the comps more power they would sound better but they dont seem to.
Sorry about the big essay.
Cheers :)
180w may be a bit too much for them ? But they should still be able to take it tbh.
Try lowering the gain a bit, you should be able to go to full volume and not get any distortion really, only at the very limit.
so it sounds worse after adding the splitters? you will be splitting the signal from the hu so it may not be as good, depends on the quality of the splitters aswell, if they are from halfords they may be ****e.

I matched the gain to the headunit preouts. I have an alpine 9855R, preouts are 4V im sure so the gain is just left where it was straight up.
I might buy some coaxials for the back and have 40WRMS to each speaker.
Hmmm, ill mess with the gains and see what happens.
Cheers :)

They're autoleads OFC Y splitters. They look pretty decent.

Another good point there.
Yeah lower the gains a bit and see how it sounds.
If it sounded good on 40wrms then why not leave it at that ?
Also, i really wouldnt bother with rear speakers
have you measures what the amp is actualy running at?
Check the voltage coming from the Split RCA's outer earth inner live, pull teh out of the amp and put on a multi meter , set to voltage, and check to see if the numbers are matching (preferbly on a sine wave in your crossover range).
Possibly a damaged RCA whick is lacking giving a decent signal?

Wooot, its getting a bit complex now. I dont have a multimeter lol.
I'll play with the settings and see if it come any better.
It sounded a million times better at 40WRMS than it did not amped so i might just leave it at that.
Thanks people :)

Another quick question, my tweeters sound pretty harsh. When i wired up the crossover today there was some jumpers in there with -X DB. If i switch the jumper to one of the minus ones will it lower the volume of the tweeter?
Thanks again.
EDIT: Its on -0 DB jumper at the moment.
Try turning your crossover freq on your head unit to around 7.5kh!
Adjust flat on the comp crossover!

Hmm, if i adjust the headunit will it change the woofer settings too though? The woofer sounds mint, the tweeters are a little loud.
yea i mean the treble x over if you have one in the head unit?

Just drove home from work, and it sounds great. It must have just been the CD that was rubbish quality. I put a bit of Dre on and it sounded perfect.
