i was driving to work today n my subs were working fine then a gd song come on so cranked it up as yo do then i thought my subs dont sound right, then i smelt burning so turned the sterio off, had a quick look tonite and my amp for my speakers is fine no burning smell but my subs just sound like there russeling, checked all the cables they seam as normal, the amp still powers up, what could be the problem? any help would be great

Check the burning smell aint from the Woofer, take it out and have a smell.

This could possibly be Voice coil you are smelling!

will have a look tomorrow, im just gutted aint the same without subs the've been fine 4 the last 2 years, would the voice coil affect the whole sub? i hjave 2 btw both not working

Mmmm check the wires hav'nt come off!

Yes the voice coil in what is wrapped around the Former of the sub, this is what holds a magnetic feild of to what moves the Cone.

If the coil is burnt out it will be open curcuit and non conductive = dead Woofer.

mine did this too today.. it works fine every now and then.. but then sumtimes its jus a russlin of da bass...

all sorted it was the fuse it had melted n bits still connecting thats where the burning was coming from , time 4 a new power cable i think

What amp and what size cable/fuse are you using?
