View Full Version : Good Roads in Cambridge

A lot of complaints going down that Cambridge area is boring, however we've still got some good roads going.

Starting a thread of good roads to drive on and possibly sought out some meets? For this to work, using Google Maps Directions option to point out the route, given miles and estimated drive time (but that's for granny's so don't blame me if you do it quicker!):

A. "Yarrow Road, Cherry Hinton" to "Balsham UK", 7.1 miles, approx. drive time: 14 mins
Good route as can all meet up in the car park at Fulbourn Tesco. Route has two good straight routes (for you lucky ones with 1.8s!) then moves onto a couple of good twists before reaching Balsham where you turn around and go back!

B. "Cambridge Road, Abington" to "Balsham UK", 4.1 miles, approx. drive time: 7 mins
That whole area is pretty good for driving, good scenery. But theres one particular hill that you can easily get air on. Couple of good sharp turns and some stretches of straight roads.

Anyone else in the Cambridge/East area know any good roads, stick on the thread and we can organise a meet to test them out!

peterborough

Leave peterborough past alwalton going towards elton. great twisty road to elton which you can get some speed up on. turn right at the first right in elton towards wansford some lovely corners then a long straight :).

once in wansford either turn round to go back the same way. go onto the a1 which is quite twisty going back to peterboroug or the a47 which is long and fast.

or some other little country routes

One of my fave roads :)

That sounds pretty good! How long does it take you to get between Peterborough and Cambridge? Might have to come up some time

Every road is a good road when you're on the floor with some poke under your right foot!! My favourite road, is the one from Wilburton to Cottenham! Its got fast bends 60+ but still quite tight, hump back bridge, tight s-bend over larger bridge and three straights. Drive it every day and could prob do it blind folded.

We need to have an informal meet soon, none of this go for a drink stuff........just a meet in the car park and meet each other. thats wot i think any way!!

Agreed, informal meets are so much better! I cant say there are very many roads that I find very interesting to drive around on in cambridge though.

what about the roud from fulbourn to the bottom of lyne kil hill? in cherry hint thats always a nice drive with some long sweeping corners or theres a short road from little shelford to witlesford which is fast and bendy. theres also the back road from trumpington to newnam has a nice fast left hander up a hill which is great.
