ive got an alpine type r powered by a 600w rms alpine amp.

ive currently got it in the box that caraudiosecurity make.

what i want to know is if i make a custom one will i be able to make it sound lots better?, as it doesn't sound as loud as i expected it to.

because i have to have it on about 3/4 of the head unit volume to get any decent bass from it, and then the front components start distorting, and the bass eq on the sub is on full, gain about half, and freq about half.

also would it be better sealed or ported?

turn your gain up?

if i turn the gain up it starts to distort a bit, will using a fatter power cable do anything as its only using 10 gauge cable?

Hmm, what amp is powering it mate? And what Headunit do you have?

You should be bale to have the sub level on full without any distortion.

As for a box, a custom, ported box would probs suit the type R best - that what I have :D However I dont think its the box at this stage that is the problem...

the amp is a alpine mrp-m650

and the hu is a kenwood, but i dont know what model.

but the sub sounds good with the gain about half, but any more and it starts to distort. but i want the sub to be a bit louder without changing the components volume, but keeping the quality.

The amp should be perfect for the sub then. What are you running it at - 2 or 4 Ohms? As you'll get more power from 2 Ohms.

Also, do you know what voltage your preouts are on your HU? The gain voltage should match this - should be either 2 or 4v if its a decent unit.

its running at 2 ohm, and the pre outs are 4v.

Make sure your gain is 4v on the amp then

will this box be far better than the sealed one that i got from caraudiosecurity?

10 Gauge!?!?!?

Power cable should be 4 Gauge for that kind of power.

That's your 1st problem right there. Sort that out then come back and we'll help out further.

Deffo upgrade to 4AWG

i thought it might be a problem but someone told me it will be fine at short lenths.

ive got 4 gauge going from the battery to the distrobution block then ive got it split into 10 gauge.

so i will need to swap the 10 gauge for 4 gauge then will i?

will this be why ive not got alot of power?

id go for 0/2 gauge from the battery, and then split to 4awg.

I need to do this really, mines 4 gauge from the battery split to 8 gauge, seems ok at the mo

 ive got a bit of 4 gauge left so i think ill just swap the 10 gauge with this from the dist block and see if it makes a difference.

and then i will probably get a custom ported box to put it in.

It should be better. Make sure any inline fuses are more than ample, i.e. 80A.

That box you linked is designed specifically for that sub so you will notice an improvement from changing to it. Although, as already stated, it should hit pretty hard already!

ive just upgraded the power cable and played around with a few settings and it sounds much better now and thumps very hard.

someone is offering me that box for £30 so i think i will get that and it should sound even better.

but i think i will now need to upgrade my components and amp for them as they distort very easily at volume.
