tr or vr??
put simply which should i go for and what price would i be expecting to pay?
i have no intention of amping them up just seems like too much hard work, plus i need my boot space.
cheers
I think the VR are the newer versions of the TR series.. I would recommend going for some components not coaxial speakers.. Whats your budget? If you want some sound advice you can call the guys at AI Audio their number is 01753 575220
well the guy down at my local audio shop said that comp trs are 150 and he could get me comp vrs for 200 just wanting to know what would be better
i mean would there be much difference between the two seeing as i aint goin to amp them?

If you aren't going to amp them then go for jbl or alike - they will sound identical. Do not insult quality brands like genesis, re audio, dls, jl audio, etc with not amping them.
I've had JL XR, JL ZR, and now Focals Berylliums. If i'm honest, i liked the ZR's the most. Saying that, my berylliums have not been isntalle properly and are not tuned so it's hard to say really.
This pricelist given is BBG's official RRP pricelist, which is the company who distribute the speakers mate:
I'm guessing you're after 17cm components?
JL TR £119.99
JL VR £199.99
JL C5 £349.99
JL XR £399.99
JL ZR £499.99
Any reason why you want JL? Have you conisdered Focal?
Access Line 1 £69.99
Polyglass V1 Line £104.99
Polyglass V2 Line £219.99
165KF £264.99
165KP £339.99
Just to give you a bit of choice really, give us a shout back if you need help. Also, what region are you from?
Ryan,
JL VR work best with JL's Amps
northern ireland
il have a look at focal, take it they are on caraudiodirect.com
no intention of having an amp though
well how much could i get a decent amp for?
cause i aint got a clue as to what i would be looking for?

No they don't. Why would they?

Focal and JL will be harder to find on the internet to be honest, they try their hardest to be removed from internet distribution.

As Martin is implying, don't waste your money on good speakers, if you are not using an amplifier, there is no point.

How decent is decent? £500? £300? £150? £100?
What is your TOTAL budget for everything mate?
200-250 probably, thats only for comps and possibly an amp!
Then possibly look at the 'JL-TR' or the 'Focal Polyglass V1 Line' with £100 to spare on an amp. With £100 you wont get a JL/Focal amp so you will have to get a cheaper one, but its better than getting good speakers with no amp. Sort of like getting a good car with a 0.8 litre engine. If its got no power, its not very impressive...
......drive a one litre i know the feelin so you point makes complete sense
what other makes are there that deliver good sound quality that are cheaper than jl and focal?

Buy from ebay, then when it comes across im not sure who or how you pay it but for a set of JL speakers you're looking about £40 if that. So going off what was stated above if you take the JL XR650 CSi and delivery and import tax it comes to about £180 :D Lots cheaper than the £330 i've seen them for

I have a feeling import tax on such an item is 27.5% so yeah around £180. However i'm quite lost on what you would do if the product breaks. That would be alot of hassle to get dealt with. JL XR are old discontinued speakers, which is why they are going for so cheap, so if your speakers or crossovers do break, you may struggle to find replacement parts. I say may, you will struggle as I myself used to have JL XR's and BBG, the UK JL distribution company, were not able to supply spares as they are discontinued. If I were you I would buy JL C5's, the speaker that replaced the XR. They're newer, and better built.

Stick to UK distros as you will get a warranty and peace of mind and a fairly competitive price.

100% Completely agree, typical example happened toay where a mate of mine but PG Titanium Elites and found out they wouldnt fit in his car. Bought from America and the guy is refusing a refund. Don't blame him. Every single thing in my car (audio) was bought via my local car audio shop and as a result i've got pretty close with them and do get quite a few bargains. For cheap **** i'd go for the net, but for proper gear, as you say, peace of mind is what i'd want.
