Do I need to put a switch in to turn the amp on and off so it doesn't run the battery down?
no u need a live, earth and signal... this sends a signal from the H/U to tell the amp when it needs to be on or off... the amp wont work without it

This is how I wired my amp up to my standard headunit, didnt touch the actual head unit at all. I'm assuming you've got a line converter and connected this up to your speaker wires?

You need to connect it to the ignition live - one possible place is the cigarette lighter.

is the amp in the boot? if so, just disconnect the rear speakers and use those wires?
CharlieKR

Yeah its in the boot. I heard that getting to the rear speakers was alot of hassle though.

its either that or running the wires from your boot up to the front of the car, and splicing it in behind the head unit

Yeah true true. I might have a tinker about in the rear...*waits for double-meaning joke to be posted...*

Right ive done it and it works fine...untill i turn the engine on and theres loads of interferance from it.
Anyone have an idea as to why this happens?
hmm i no this can happen if the live and RCA wires run down the same side of the car... but i dont think there will be a away around it... unless u run them down the middle of the car... why not just get a new H/U?

Cheers for the help :) all sorted now.
If you have small hands, left side of the boot you can put your hand up into a hole, and if your skillfull enough unplug the rear speaker...
Otherwise to get the rear panel off PROPERLY, Rear seats out, rear door card off, panel that goes to head lining then take all screws out.
The way i do it, take a few screws out rear door card, pull it enough to take out the ONE screw behind it holding rear panel off, then pull the headlining thing off, take 2 screws out, and the rest and pull panel off and slide it it out :)

Not really relevant to this thread but shouldn't you have a fuse in the remote cable if you are wiring straight to the battery?

Yes it should. 3A or 5A would be suitable.
