Loads of people reguarly ask 'whats the best speakers etc... on a budget' so i thought ied make a thread to save all the questions.

Before you start. READ THIS!!! (http://www.corsa-c.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=31259) It has loads of other common questions etc.

You dont have to follow every step, its just a guide on whats best.

Get yourself a bulk pack of damplifier (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/second-skin-damplifier-bulk-p-5503.html) should be plenty. £80

Then follow what i did when applying the sheets to the doors and boot (http://www.corsa-c.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=84419) from post #16. If you know how to get the doorcards off (http://www.corsa-c.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=16879)then this will be easy. Free :). Its not essential to sound deaden your car, but it does make a hell of a difference. Just anyone whos heard mine :D

Make some custom baffles like jack did out of 18mm md (http://www.corsa-c.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=100684)f, as its a lot easier than the way i did it  Then bolt them to the door and use sealent to get a nice tight seal. £20 max! This gives a nice solid mount for the speaker and should improve the bass reproduction.

Get a decent set of 17cm component speakers, such as the SPL 6.2's (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/dynamics-sd62-p-5523.html). £79.99. Then fit them into the baffles you made, or use the plastic ones you can get from halfords. Autoleads part number SAK 3001. Or from here (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/2000.html). You can mount the tweeters where the orignal ones were, just use a stanley blade to cut out the old grill and make a hole big enough to fit the new ones in, they should come with a fitting kit that allows you to surface mount them. More info here on removing the door card and fitting components (http://www.corsa-c.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=16879)

Invest in one of these amps (JBL 75.4), as it can run your whole system (comps and sub), and is widely regarded as one of the best budget amps you can get (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/2911.html). £89.99 but can be had on ebay for cheaper iirc

Then a JBL gt4 sub to go with it. (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/1006.html) £39.99 but again is cheaper on ebay iirc.

Either build your own sealed box for it to go in, or buy a prefab box (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/1184.html). Building you own is better as it will be much stronger and better built, but if your lazy the pre-fab one will do :P Wont be much more than £20 for the wood and screws etc... As for the size of the box, reccomended volumes are: Sealed - 28 litres. Ported 64 litres.

Then a decent 4awg wiring kit (http://www.cablesexpress.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?cPath=26&products_id=46) - £36.50

How to install the wiring kit (http://www.corsa-c.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=76234)

Get the amp and the sub in (mentioned in the above link), and then it will be time to amp your components. There are various ways of doing this....

1. The Best Way: Remove your doors and make a hole for the new wire to go through (http://www.corsa-c.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=110032). It sounds really hard, but really isnt. Just get a mate to help out and im sure you will be okay.

2. Good way of doing it, but can be a bit fiddly to do and requires patience (http://www.corsa-c.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=99228). Would be a good idea to get a rubber grommit (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=1790&criteria=grommit&doy=26m2), or similar from maplins for when the wire crosses the bare metal in the door.

3. The least attractive, but easiest way (http://www.corsa-c.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=94750) (from post #63). Not the best, but probably the easiest.

So its your choice really, i cant stress enough that method 1 is definatly the best , and really is quite easy if your careful.

So thats a total cost of £366.47. Add on about £50 for any postage charges and little extras you need.

That leaves you with a great budget system for £420! (assuming you have a head unit already, if not you can get a good alpine or pioneer for £150) Heres how to fit a headunit (http://www.corsa-c.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=3), or a double din head unit (http://www.corsa-c.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=82093).

Thats about it really, hope that helps

You could also add that its perfectly OK to use the existing speaker wire to the doors if you are wiring up a budget system.

As long as the power going to the speakers isn't too high (100wrms) as a guide.

This is done by simply removing the speaker wire from the ISO adaptor behind the headunit, and connecting it to the new speaker wire coming from the amp by way of a terminal block, bullet connectors etc.

Perhaps a useful list of "Brands to Avoid" and "Decent Budget Brands" would be good as well?

What other amp could you use instead of the JBL 75.4 as its not for sale in most places now. Not sure why though.

JBL GTO 1004e. Also great value for money.

Or get a 75.4 off ebay for pennies
