can someone please explain what the difference is between amps with 2 4 6 channels etc?

i have 2 jbl 12" subs and need to get an amp for them but what one?

im gonna buy one tomorrow so links owuld help

A 4 channel amp has 4 channels
A 6 channel amp has 6 channels
