C/coding in Photoshop

How do i see what my bumper will look like c/coded in Shop?

ps i know how to make selections and choose brushes but the colouring while still showing the shading is buggin me

You have to do it will a new layer over the top of your image. Quite hard to explain. I'll try and find a site that explains it.. hang on..
