Buy an aftermarket headunit and get steering control adaptors... :)

No... if anything the fronts may sound worse.
Do you want it to sound good or just distorting and loud? If it's the first one, 6*9s are not what you want either.
Get a better headunit and the adapters to get the steering controls working.
what kind of adaptors and how would they fit ?? but finding a correct cd player enhancment which will fit with climate controls

the improvement will be very small without amplifiers!

can you not get an amp that works off of the origional headunit? for powering a sub and comps....converts the signal or summit

There are some amps that can handle high level inputs, and you can get converter boxes that will take the high level output from your standard head unit and step it down to pre-out levels.
Thing is though if your prepared to spend the money on a amp with line level inputs or a line/rca adaptor then you might aswell spend the money on a decent headunit first. The standard headunit will only sound so good, spending money on all the rest seems a bit of a waste.
Its easy enough to replace the headunit and fitting the adaptor for steering controls doesn't make things any harder.

^^ Ditto.
Although getting the steering wheel controls working in an Exclusiv isn't a cheap job. You're looking at £50ish for all the wiring you need due to the CANbus system.

In fact it may well not work well at all without a better amp in HU or external amp.
I went down this route and my original HU couldn't even power a set of 6x9's properly.
You will see much better improvement by changing to a decent HU before speakers mate :)
bollocks , because i cant be arsed to lose steering controls and find a cd player adjustment which will look smark with the climate control, as it seems to be different size compared to normal aircon controls ?
SO 6BY9s with the original sterion wont work better or worse ?

Many head units will work with steering wheel controls with te right cable mate.

need amps really if upgrading speakers and not HU. although i bought an alpine HU with a built in amp and didnt bother upgrading standard peakers becasue they didnt sound too bad amped by the HU lol
Changing the speakers does make it sound much betterif you want to keep the standard HU the only reason your get distortion or crackling is due to the oem speakers as there rated to around 12W . sound deading makes a real difference to the front doors too.
if your on a budget its the way to go (or want the keep the oem look). if you want to run a sub you can get a line level adapter and run it from the rear speakers

Ha gutted, mine is pre-canbus so the wiring only cost 35quid.
