View Full Version : Any Ideas on My MFD?

I have just replaced the bulbs in my MFD back to original ones, however they dont work!
Its my second set of new bulbs, my dimmer switch is up and there are no fried fuses.
I know the actual screen works because when I hold the dome up to the light without the bulbs in, it shines through and I can see the display!
Can anyone help?
Bulbs put in round the wrong way
LEDs only work one way round, Swap them around

this doesnt make a difference as they are not LEDs
Matt with things like this you need to take a logical approach. Remove the bulbs and test they work, the problem could be they have detached filaments which makes them look ok but in practice they don't work.
Ok so they work, now you know the bulbs aren't the problem you need to see if the MFD is getting power to the bulb holders. If you have a multimeter that's easy but if not then if the bulbs don't light you can saftely assume the MFD isn't supplying power. Are the copper strips the bulbs connect to ok, do they look damaged.
If none of that helps you need to check the pins in the MFD elec connector, then see if you can find a blown fuse.
If you can see the figures it's not the screen in the MFD.

good thinking, Will try this approach. The more I think about it though, i rekon the copper strip on the MFD is damaged. Thanks oddjob
A lot of the LEDs which you cna buy off E-Bay ruin the copper strips as they aren't very good bulb holders.
I do have a few MFDs lying about if yours is ruined.

I'll give it ago and i'll let you know. Thanks
make sure the contact strips are bent (or not bent down as the case maybe ) to much as i had this on my corsa b every time i hit a hole or bump it would turn off/on. The pcb is quite thick on the mfd what causes all sorts of probs
Doesn't usually occue with genuine Vx bulbs, it's aftermarket ones which have the problem as a rule.
