I just installed my alpine cde-9850ri and was fiddlng around with subwoofer and bass levels, i turned the volume up to around 22 and a few seconds later it turned off and would not power on again, it's fuse under the bonnet was marked 5 and it had blown. So i replaced it with a fuse marked 10, the same problem occurs (it turns off around volume 22) but now it turns back on straight away without replacing the fuse. Any ideas of what this is and how i could stop it turning off?

You replaced a 5amp fuse with a 10amp fuse
It cuts off for a reason mate, normally to stop it over heating or blowing up. On an alpine you'd be lucky to get anything sounding semi decent over 21 without upgrading or amplifying speakers.

I see. Should i have replaced it with a different amp fuse?

Yes. 5amp is what it needs.
