Hey, I'm getting a headunit fairly soon + was just wondering what is the RMS power of the standard components??

Reason I ask is, my mate is giving me most of his old system for next to nothing and I was going to start building a fairly cheap little ICE setup for myself starting from the components I am given..

I'm getting a Mutant 10" 70w RMS sub for free with a SPLX 500watt amp (about 150w RMS apparently) Also I am getting a KDC-W6537U headunit..

I am trying to work out wether he is pulling my leg as I can't find a 500w spl-x amp nor a 70w RMS mutant sub,

BUT if he isn't is this a good starting point for a system?? How bassy will the sub be and what will the S/Q be like. I am not after volume but want a fairly flat system with all bases covered.. Are the standard components good enough to run un-amped and sound decent..

AND, is the 50w outputs of the KDC-W6537U rms or peak power?? I feel it's peak but he assures me it's RMS

What would be the next stem towards good S/Q, amp the standard components or get a cheap set of kenwood comps and amp them??

Thanks for your help :)

its 50W peak from a HU mate, 15W RMS roughly?

i think the standard door speakers are less than 20W RMS.

the next step would be some decent components, like Infinity's or i think there are some DLS ones for £80 which are nice. theres no sense in buying cheap gear because you will only end up buying something better to replace it.

true.. How you think the sub + standard comps will sound if I get em balanced fairly good, and what will the overall volume capabilities be like before distortion rears its ugly head?

Well, the standard comps are ok for a standard set. From what i have heard, the Mutant gear isnt the best, but i have no idea how loud / nice that sub will sound. amped components do make a big difference though, as they will provide a nice amount of volume as well as much increased definition and clarity.
