HI GUYS
wonder if you can make any sence of this, my mate is installing summin in his boot that runs off a invertor, he bought a ciggerete extender cable and run it from the battery to the back of the car.
Then pluged the invertor and said the wires heated up loads and well to say the least set the invertro was on fire! as funny as i fonund this i have no idea why? I said to him u didnt get postavie and nehative mixed did u and he said well there was 2 cables one just white and another white with a black strip on it. He said that he thought the black stip was there to show negative.
All sounds ok to me but obv not right, what can i tell him to do?
Apart from dont go near a battery again....
Cheers
basically the rule of thumb is, if you're using an inverter, from say some in car neons, dont extend the wires between the invertor and the neons, i've heard about one guy who burnt his car to the ground doing this, and its not advisable, im pretty sure it can be done safely, but the wire is very important, and is not reccomended unless you know what you're doing, the whole point of invertors is change from dc/ac and increase voltage at the same time, which means wires that are' save at 12v will not neccessarily be when used after the invertor

gaazaa i think you mis-read
the extension cable was run from the battery terminals to a 12v car lighter socket into which the invertor was plugged. in theory thats fine.
the invertor may have been faulty?
to be honest tho, regardless of how simple it is, i would never recommend messing about with power invertors unless you know exactly what you're doing.... although i hard-wired mine lmao
the invertor is pulling to much current over the lenght of the extension cable check it with a multimeter and see what ampage its pulling. only option is to upgrade the cabling to the invertor
with out knowing what he is running i can say much more it may be the fact the invertor isnt up to the job
edit. as hes connected it to the battery i hope its fuses otherwise he will have a bombfire on his hands

lol best not to mess with AC....
thats what i thought, im not happy about plugging one of those things into the standard cigarette socket lol,

yeah lol i had mine under my seat and every now and then the seat would feel a bit warm and i'd get paranoid lol

He didnt say, he just said that its definatly the cables becuase he tried a smaller invertor and once again the wires heated up and it blew the fuse. He said he had tried with a shorter one and it worked fine.
But what i think he is gna do is put like the invertor say under a seat and then get a longer power chord for whatvea he is running? now that sounds like it might work but im not electician so no ideas but then again does sound abit risky at the same time???
Shall i tell him he is going to either kill himlsef or have his car set on fire... (what a shame!) not that im against feistas :P or anythin
