Heard of TomTom Go? its apparently a very good system with a lot of upgrading capabilities, however can only be used for GPS whereas a pocket PC (ipaq) can be used for other stuff aswell with TomTom navigator, my setup is a IPAQ 2210 (refurb from ebay works a dream) with a 256mb SD Card, TomTom Navigator 3, POIWarner with speed camera location database...

A TomTom GO will set you back about £360.

The Ipaq will depend upon model, and the TomTom Bluetooth GPS module and software will set you back about £170.

I paid £450 for my IPAQ, TomTom and Carkit to mount them with.

Saying that, there are plenty of options available on ebay, I just got a second TomTom Bluetooth GPS Receiver without software for £75 on the bay which is a steal.

As speedx says, the ipaq option has many other uses, but can cost you more new.

What sort of budget do you have, and what is your main use of this system?

Forget Ipaq's your just paying for the name.. Get a Dell Axim ok there a bit chunkyer but they do the job... Ive got an Axim X5, Compact flash GPS card and an external antenna which sits on the rook of the car. I use TOM TOM on the PDA and its ace. Got all the speed cameras etc programmed in (free update) and i can say its worth every penny.

My dad has Tom Tom go in his VX Signum and i think the only advantage of having the tom tom go is you dont need an external antenna... but apart from that there the same.

Tom Tom Go is like £350+
you can pick up a Dell PDA, CF card, Antenna and Mountin kit for around £260 ish all from ebay.

Works a treat ;)

If you get the Bluetooth TomTom, you don't need an antenna anyway :P

there are usually some PDA packages circulating on ebay. there was a set which came with all the car mounts, lead apapters, Microsoft Windows and all the tom-tom software you need. This was based on a mio 168 PDA. Pretty positive these were UK based, with warranties and were in the region of £300.

Sorry didnt realise the replies, my setup, bought it about a year ago now, cost ~£400 (i originally bought a cheap car cradle and the wired GPS but upgraded to bluetooth GPS and the genuine tom tom car kit)

Its definatly worth the cash, and Ipaq wont cost too much more than a stand-alone gps at the moment, ebay is the place, look for refurbed ipaq's still comes with 1 year warranty.
