i no how corsa-c.co.uk members like progress threads... well heres ANOTHER

ok had to start repairs on my car, as it kinda looks pretty bad and in a bad way now, smashed back end, (reversed into a car at work)

and front end kinda screwed, hit a curb pretty hard, PRETTY damn hard and ripped my splitter of! half of it...

ok most of us remember this thread? where i turn a pretty standardish astra into a clean modded astra!?

http://www.corsa-c.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=108703

and then this one where i spray the bonnet black in about 5 hours!!! lol

http://www.corsa-c.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=114609

any way, from looking like this ...

http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/1018/petrolstationpicug1.jpg

http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/3971/photo079pp6.jpg

it went to this!

http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/6007/astrasmoothedsplitterij7.jpg

ripped of splitter, but didnt crack where i smoothed it in, just broke off as it was done properyl! (so people when bodyshops say "IT WILL CRACK" dont believe them, mine didint crack when i hit a curb, it broke of but didnt crack any of the filler around it..)

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/310/rearsmashastradf6.jpg

smashed rear end, and broken tip of the spoiler!

any way couldnt be doing with driving around with half a splitter so i bonded the other half the splitter back on and screwed it in, drove round like this for a bit so the bond had time to properly harden!

this parking? well was busy the night before so parked any where i could find and in the morning, well....... my car looked a bit daft! so had to take a picture! lol

http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/1913/birdseyeveiwgw0.jpg

doesnt help when i keep parking like this on stupid silly angles, so bumper is on the floor!

http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/2544/astraonflooryz3.jpg

http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/5348/onthefloorpic2qn1.jpg

okaaayyy any way! its was time to strip the thing down ready for some loving AGAIN! lol

1st thing is 1st!

THE STRIP!

http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/4968/frontendstrippedwq8.jpg

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/7822/backendstrippedtg3.jpg

http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/678/onfloorshotcz8.jpg

well after that out of the way it was time to take ALL the damaged areas back to fibreglass, and remove all them small hair line cracks in the gel coating!

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/8936/backtofibreglass2tn2.jpg

after getting the front and back bumpers and spiler back to fibreglass it was time to fibreglass matt them together and reinforced from the back as that would be a week point if i never... (and i did remove all the screws out of the front bumper. lol )
its messy stuff and time consuming, would be quicker if you use fibrefill but thats not good for stuff like this! so had to do it this way...

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/5208/fibreglassspoiler2hn6.jpg

http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/8198/fibreglassedbumpers2bg9.jpg

skims of filler applied to get level and smooth....and rubbed!

http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/1173/rubbedfrontbumper2cz1.jpg

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/5008/rubbedspoiler2te4.jpg

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/4619/rubbedfrontandbackbumpeji0.jpg

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/1711/wickedviewwn2.jpg

ready for primer and all masked up

http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/1859/maskedbackbumper2rl4.jpg

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/6594/maskedspoiler2id0.jpg

http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/4192/maskedfrontbumper2qb0.jpg

primed up, missed a few pics here as battery went dead on my camera...

but here they are primed, blocked and wet flatted and grey scothed, just need a clean before they get painted...

http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/718/primedspoiler2ey4.jpg

stoppered a few pin haoles up and primed then to seal them over

http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/2897/primedfrontbumper2ve2.jpg

http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/1545/primedbackbumper2si2.jpg

the back lights, a new second hand unit ready to be sprayed to match the other side...

grey scotched and adhesion pramoter applied...

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/1985/spotthedifferencegv3.jpg

masked out

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/8307/makedoutbakclightte6.jpg

based up heavy around sides so it matches colour of the car but applied lightly in the middle so it looks even but yet road legal!

and other light scotched up ready for a fresh coat a laquer..

http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/3041/paintedbacklightnz1.jpg

ok and out comes the paint!

and my sata jet 3000 :D

http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/295/paintandsatalb9.jpg

thin paint down, 50/50

http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/4392/paintmixed5050qu2.jpg

filter paint into pps cup with a 280 micron mesh, even though it already has a filter in the pps lid i like to filter it again to make sure no bits of sh1t go down into the pot :D

http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/1933/paintfiletredinppscupwizo1.jpg

loaded up, ready to roll!!! :D

i am a painter.... thats it, i do minor filing and bits of fibreglassing, and lots of paint (my corsa was an exception) lol.... i dont want to be doing panel work and stuff, i want to concentrate in this area and get it right and be good at it rather then do everything and be sh1t at it....

but its a good trade to be into if you like that sorta stuff...

keep asking about, some one will take you on....

some advice though.... go to reputable places and not back street bodyshops...

i work for a compnay who have contracts with stratstone, ferrari, maserati and jag and our standards have to very high but this is the only way i have been taught, it helps allot.... but if i was at a back street bodyshop then i dont think i would have been taught right....

thanks for the comment geezer! :D
