View Full Version : Snow foam...
Could someone please tell me all the things I need and then what I actually have to do with it.
Is it worth the money? What's so great/bad about it?
I already have a Kaercher pressure washer (probably the cheapest one possible, lol) so I'm guessing I need a foam lance, where should I get one and what should I be paying?
Any help/links would be appreciated

Been on about 30 seconds there so its already dripping off. Could get it thicker too but theres no need. Think thats on just under half way on the mixer tap thing.
Its deffo worth the money, my car is almost clean after leaving snow foam on for 5 mins then pressure washing off. Must reduce swirls hell of a lot.

Plus they do a terrible job and I'm never happy with it, always end up doing it again.
If Johny 4 gets his car this weekend I thought once we'd pulled all the cars apart in various places and put them back together we could give all three a good clean.

That foam lance is different to the one I saw in Halfrauds?!? Is it a Kaercher one or is it another brand the fits anyway? The one I saw was like £80!

The one you saw in halfords is probably the official karcher one. The one i have is the one people on detailing world use.
I think mine will produce more foam than the karcher one.

Lol, cheeky git, that was the plan anyway, I thought we could do all 3
The stuff is awesome....

Really helps to lubricate the pain to prevent swirls when washing. Loads of dirt just drips off you car once its been on there for around 30secs.
Its also great fun to use

lol, that looks so cool. Looks like you've got the same kit too, good to see how well it works.
So after it's been snow foamed do you just rinse it all off with the normal pressure washer and then clean as per usual?
Yeah, usually you rinse, foam, leave for a min, rinse, foam, wash with mit.
Its not actually my gear, its Kyle'87 's, so if you want more detailed info your best of speaking to him.
All i know is that it helps get the car super shiny :P

Oh so it's = rinse - foam - rinse - wash - rinse - clay - wash - rinse - dry - polish - wax?
I thought it was just = foam - rinse - wash - rinse - clay - wash - rinse - dry - polish - wax  lol
I think its best to foam it twice, as the majority of the dirt is removed in the first cycle, you wouldnt want to be rubbing that into your paint
so...
rinse - foam - rinse - foam - wash - rinse - clay - wash - rinse - dry - polish - wax

is there a cheaper foam lance availiable?
£50 seems a lot considering my pressure washer only cost like £70 (cheapo karcher 211 or someting)
how long does a tub of snow foam last?

Nope i meant is. Most dirt comes off in the foam on the first cycle when you rinse if off, so if you didnt rinse if off and just washed it with the foam still on, its gonna rub the dirt into the paint.
So you foam again, then dont rinse it off so helps to lube the paint when you wash mit it.
If that makes sence

ahhh I see, so it's actually = rinse - foam - rinse - foam - washmit etc...
So you don't rinse off the second coating of foam so it helps you give it a good soaping.

From what I've been reading on the net you can use "normal" shampoo and get a similar effect, if not quite as thick.

Those karcher things you linked are pretty pooor Joel. Ive got one of them somewhere.
You only put 1 inch of snow foam into the lance bottle then top it up with warm water, so 5L lasts ages! Had my lance a few month and ive barely touched the 5L!

I dont leave the foam on, i foam it twice and rinse it twice then wash using two bucket method.
partridge_88
29-04-2008, 11:48
doesnt that defeat the object as it loosens the dirt?
The whole point it to loosen the dirt, and lubricate the paint ?! :dontknow:
So you wasting it really mate
smiffy1989
29-04-2008, 11:50
doesnt that defeat the object as it loosens the dirt?
It takes off most of the dirt, its a prewash to get rid of as much of the dirt as possible before you do a contact wash. Im sure your not meant to leave it on and wash the car..

You are. It acts as a lubricant.
Thats why you do two cycles, first removes most dirt, second lubes it up for a good washing :P
smiffy1989
29-04-2008, 11:55
hmmm, i have plenty of lube in my two buckets! Dirt still comes off the car with the second foam so surely if you leave it on your rubbing the dirt on the paint? After the second foam has been rinsed off there is very little dirt left on the car.

Taken from detailingworld:
http://laurenstephens.net/uploads/2dd221056b.pdf
Rinsing off foam from the bottom up allows the foam
to do its work on the dirtier areas of the car rather
than being simply watered down by rinse water from
above!
Doesn't seem to make sense to me, she then goes on to contradict herself by saying
Always wash from the top down with the mitt or
sponge to save dragging grit from dirty lower panels
onto cleaner upper panels. A second mitt for just
lower panels is recommended.
Doesn't seem to make sense to me, she then goes on to contradict herself by saying
She is talking about using the foam gun and then using a mit so it 3 different situations
i dont get all this,
why spend so much time cleaning it? just bang it in the car wash once a month, and then when you come to sell it pay a mate £50 to go over it with a UDM and take all the little imperfections out, thus saving you time and money and asking silly questions like Mikes!
partridge_88
29-04-2008, 12:18
Because it looks better after a proper wash and wax and the finish lasts longer.
Also, for me, I love the satisfaction of having a dirty car then a few hours later its spanking.
Its a hobby, yes its expensive and some may say pointless, but then again isnt golf?
She is talking about using the foam gun (1) and then using a mit (2) so it 3 (<-- are you sure?) different situations
you make me lol, but I see your point.
Still contradiction aside it still doesn't make sense to me, rinse it off from the bottom up? So I'll rinse the bottom of the door, then rinse the top of the door allowing all the dirt from the top to run over the bottom bit I've just rinsed off, then the roof etc....
It's illogical if you ask me

1) Car wash does a crap job
2) In the long run doing it yourself works out cheaper than keep paying for car washges.
3) I can do a far better job than in pole/kosovan etc...
4) It's better to prevent imperfections/treat them sooner than it is to let them build up.
5) I want my car to look nice now, for me and the people that look at it, I don't just want to have it looking spangly for when someone buys it
6) Letting others wash your car they can scratch your paintwork, they can also do stupid things like put bodywork polish on your windscreen thus knackering your wipers :x
I'm sure I could list more but that's enough for now, this isn't the thread to do it in anyway :P
Not listening to the experts ftw!
Do the "experts" make sense to you?
do you see my point?

The tutorial was written by a male, its just hosted at an address with a females name! ;)
I understand what he's saying but im rubbish at explaining things!
I rinse the foam off from the top so that gravity helps, i dont reckon it makes a difference really as long as it all gets rinsed off.
Some of the stuff they say on detailingworld i would only do if i owned a really smart car.
you make me lol, but I see your point.

As i said before, the foam takes off most of the dirt before you even start washing with the mitt. If the car has been waxed practically all of the dirt comes off with just the foam!
Its deffo worth buying.

Best mix i found so far is 1 inch of snow foam in the bottle topped up with warm water.

Hmm doesn't look very consistant foam on those pics? Looks like you need to adjust the air ratio on the lance. I will wack a pic up of mine in a few days.
