i'm thinking about changing my standard corsa cd player, for an alpine 9853r with iPod adapter. how would i get the steering controlls 2 work? and would i need any adapters?
2 12" infinity subs with 6x9 9603i infinity components. not sure about whether i'd need 2 amp the componets up tho. and not decided on an amp for the subs.
any suggestions? and what sounds do you guys have that you'd recommend?
cheers for all your help and advice, liam.
Hi, I can find the steering control adaptors, they are ~£40-£50
I used them on my pioneer DEH-5600MP in my previous corsa, I believe the facelift model requires different adaptors though and I dont think they have made an ISO Adaptor for the facelift model as of yet, my previous corsa was August 2002 I believe 54 reg is the facelift model so if you have a 54 model I would get it checked out if I was you.
If you can afford Rockford Fosgate amps, then go for one of those for the subs. I've got a four channel one running my comps up front and the single sub in the boot and I highly recommend it :D
I've got infinity reference comps which I love to bits, they sound fantastic and I'm running a single Kicker 12" square sub in the boot. Haven't bothered changing the rear speakers, cause I never sit in the back!!
As for steering wheel controls, you can buy adaptors from good ICE shops that connect the controls to your head unit, not cheap though.

thanks for your help guys. i have a 53 plate corsa, so i might be allright.
so you put the 6x9's in your door, replaceing the door speakers? sounds good, but did you need 2 take the door panel off?
i've got 2 change the stereo b4 i start back in college next september, so plenty of time over the summer 2 do it. yea infinity looks and sounds great, and good prices aswell.
do the subs make a big difference 2 the sound? thing is you loose the boot, so golf clubs will have 2 go on back seats, i dont care about that tho, i'll be driving
thanks. liam

go for alpine or rockford fosgate
gettin my rocky install sortd on thursday n itll be pimpin
Liam, you cant just put a straight swap and put 6x9"'s into doors, they are 13cm in doors,
you need to cut up ya parcel shelf or buy a stealth shelf see (www.bassjunkies.com) for stealth shelves, or just up-rate your components in the doors with some infinitys or something.
I have a standard setup atm, CD 30 or something silver Double Din H/U and standard comps, think my first upgrade is the comps, then go for a sub and amp try and wire that into the factory headunit.
You can get 17cm adaptors tho SpeedX
Best to get 17cm Components  Dont bother with 6 x 9's if you have a sub!

spot on, they cancel each other out...

what do you mean they cancel eachother out?
would i be ok 2 keep the standard components in the doors and put the 6x9's in the parcel shelf with a sub in the boot
i'd have the alpine head unit, from original post, and aint sure i can affrod a rockford amp, just go for something like jbl?
thanks
I had a JBL Package before, 12" 1000watt Peak sub & 450watt amp I think, was really nice sound, never got the gain sorted perfectly though.
No I understand 6x9" are not good wit a sub, basically what you get from a pair of 6x9 is the same as what you get from a sub my idea would be just to get a sub
I want a pair of 8" Vibe Black/Space Airs in my car with a nice rocky amp wired upto the factory h/u!

if i could wire them into my head unit like your saying then i'd do the same as you mate ,save a fortune on all the adapters and stuff, but how would you do this? i heard that the standard head units dont come with the right pre outs or something?
gimme 20 secs, finding the post, dont reply will edit this one ;)
Edit: http://corsa-c.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16488
Apparently it sounds whack, but even if I give it a go lost no money cos all the wiring and subs n everything there for an upgraded h/u!!

thanks fo the link m8, seems a good idea, but looks complicated, i aint 2 experienced on these things.
basicly you connect one of these adapters http://www.davidnavone.com/adaptor_products.htm
to the left and right speaker outputs from the standard stereo, and use thge output from this adapter to plug into the amp, whicj connects 2 the battery and subwoofers and componants. right?? :?
think i got the basic idea's but worried about attempting this myself.
is this what your planning on doing mate?
its what im planning on doing, but will probably wire it like you would a normal amp all the back end, and make my own pre-out (female RCA's) headunit end. When doing my wiring, dont care if it costs me an extra £50 to make it all neat and tidy :)

ok cool. would you post some pics of this when you do it please m8, very interested. maybe a guide in the tutorials? i want to get the stereo sorted in the next 6 weeks say, so that would be a great help if you could do that. thanks anyways. liam :D
when I get paid next (not this friday but next friday) i will look into buying some stuff for my install, however I dont want to rush it as I want it to be perfect this time (I rushed it in my last one but still came out good, changed CD player in that one though) if/when I do get it working, will definatly let you know.
My intention is use that little adaptor thing from the american site and connect that behind the headunit to the speaker outs, then on the output of that thing put a couple of female RCA's, then run RCA's normally from behind headunit to the boot. that way if I dont like it or it sounds ****e then I will just put a new one in when I have more money...
Aha, I found the adaptor
http://www.davidnavone.com/a2000/Navone%20N8Ve.jpg and its only about £12!!!
It already has RCA out aswell, so will be exactly the same as Amp Pre-Outs but on standard OEM radio :D

yea so you could just replace the head unit if it isnt as good as you wanted it 2 be, only waste then is like £12 for the adapter. doesnt look that hard 2 do when you explain it like that.
so you could run the components off that amp in the boot, and the sub 2, considering the amp has enough channels. then it wouldnt be 2 bad.
yep, just out of interest though, what comps you running, do they really need to be amped? never amped my components, but you could chop the output for front speakers behind stereo, wire them up to that adaptor, then have more cables coming from amp back behind h/u to wire back up to the comps from the ones u just chopped dya get what I mean?
My advice is, dont spend money on putting 6x9's on the back shelf, this is for two reasons:
1. You dont sit in the back and you wont benefit from them
2. you sit the front so spend money on replacement comps for the doors. Infinity reference 6500 series is what I have at about £70 quid.
Get some decent speakers in the front because you spend all the time there, or should do! If your going for a full on audiophile system to compete in SQ competitions, then look at rear speakers and sound staging etc etc.
If you just want to improve the sound quality, do the front as this is where it counts.
6x9's are generally not viewed as good additions to a sound system. If you want to make lots of noise and make people look at you, but are not interested in the quality of the overall system, then fit 6x9's!!
Can you tell I don't like 6x9's ??

i want 2 get tidy components in the front, but do i need 2 take off the door panel 2 do this? or can i simply pop off the grill?
i wanted 2 do a custom boot install like andy's, it looks awesome, and then i should benifit from all around sound. not the crappy speakers that vauxhall have fitted in the back, they suck. i could undo this wire and install 6x9's straight in there.
i wanted 2 power the components up the front because the vauxhall stereo isnt that good quality above half way. so if i amped them up it should be better quality at higher volumes.

I believe its the speakers that cant handle going up all the way, if you got some decent components (I dont know what you got already) then they should be able to handle the maxiumum output power from the stereo.

oh, so if i bought tidy components, and replaced the standard corsa ones with these, then my standard corsa stereo would sound better at higher volumes even if it isnt amped up?

(dunno about the new face lift corsa) but my 2002 corsa, looks like they pulled a magnet out of a skip n re-moulded it all, they look pants.

lol. well i might just do that. cant be that difficult 2 replace two speakers, has any 1 on here just replaced the front components with a standard head unit? if so whats the sound like? is there much of an improvement? :?
thanks, liam
It should sound better if you change the speakers with the standard head unit although I've never done it myself, I've always had Pioneer head units in first.
And yes you do have to take the door cards off to replace the front door speakers.
If I'm right, you can't fit 6x9's where the standard speakers are in the back, if you really do want them, they have to go on the shelf.

i may just put the 17cm components in the front doors, and put infinity 6x9's on the back partcel shelf then, have 2 cut the holes in it tho, unless i make or buy a stealth shelf. anyway, if i can afford it after a few paycheques, i may just do the whole unit. have 2 see
thanks for all your help guys. :D

I read in that post then something about 17cm comps replacing 13cm comps in the doors, how exactly is this achieved, straight swap, that is the only thing confusing me.
I for one am also not a fan of 6X9's no offense to anyone that has them but my view of custom cars isnt to wack 2 6X9's into a parcel shelf. its so yesterday...Anyone with me

please note. i am only interesed in changing the speakers and adding 6x9's for better sound performance, not making the car look more customised. i understand where you are coming from, but just wanted you 2 know i aint doing it 2 look like some chav muppet.

lol  yer mate no worries i wasnt actually aiming at you it was the whole topic in general and about sound systems, should of been a bit clearer. I just feel personally that car modding is PERSONAL and UNIQUE which is why i dont like the old 6X9's in the parcel shelf...just follows a trend.
At the end of the day it comes down to personal preference and taste and what you want out your car.
Anyone have a solution for my previous question regarding 17cm into 13cm spaces

andy, i have noticed that you have front components installed without the grille infront of them. how did you put them there without the grille? and did you need any adapters to hold them there?
i like the infinity 6002i 6.5" 17cm speakers, but would i be able 2 put them in the doors?
thanks for any help guys :D
