View Full Version : £400 amp broken!?? Help
I was putting the sub and amp back into my car and all four 30 amp fuses blew (the ones in the amp), i had the earth in the amp before i put the power cable into the amp and now every time i get new fuses in they all blow when i put the power in.
Never had this problem before
Have i ****ed the amp?
Fuses only blow when there is too much current going through the circuit
Tried it with a less powerful sub?
ive tried it without the sub plugged in aswell, same problem, could something have broken inside the amp itself?
Do they all blow instantly? Or is it once you play some music? You may need to check that the amp does actually take 30 amp fuses or does it need higher. First impressions, it sounds like something is majorly wrong.
it happens before any music is played :(
What amp is it? If its under warranty try sending it back. If that fails try giving these guys a call: http://www.fixmyradio.co.uk/
sounds like a dodgy earth m8. try removing the earth cable and sanding down the connector and the paintwork then re-attatch it.. or if u have a spare power cable run it from the -ve terminal on the battery to the grnd on the amp...
I had to do this last time... hope this helpd

Maybe battery voltage / low current blew the fuses because you was "clipping" The Amp, what Amp is it???

The amp cant clip if it doesnt have an input signal.
Ah i didnt read that bit, TBH ide disconect the amp, run it from the battery with a simple 2x lives and 1 earth and see if that Blows it!

Sounds very much fooked. Looks like a warranty claim or new amp time.
In future be bloody careful with expensive and delicate electronics and understand what will blow them before you touch them.
really? i cant see how it could have broke when i had the earth plugged in etc?
Do you know how long warrenty lasts from caraudiodirect on an SPL Dynamics amp

fook sake, looks like ill be getting an orion amp next then :(
Is it better to put all the wires in the amp (power and ground) and the screw the fuse in at the front or just push the live power cable into the amp.
Im gonna take it apart tonite and see if anythings melted which i can replace
Try getting in touch with the guys on the link I put up earlier. It'll be a lot cheaper than buying a new amp if its repairable.
