My heater kit just came through the post from crazy leds, the kit with strips of leds. im just wondering how do you arrange them, because theres a short strip, long strip, and then another short stirp. im taking it the longest strip illuminates the numbers? and the 2short strips illuminate the heater (red-blue) dial, and the other does the spin dial that you use to demist you windows or have the air flowing out of the vents??

also how did you fit them........hotglue???

if anyone has any pics of one fitted, that would be great.

Superglue was used to hold the bars in place and then i just used some tape to hold the wires in place to stop them from tapping

Can't believe he charges £19.99 plus P&P I'd imagine for such a pile of cack. SMDs aren't that dear, there's less than a fiver worth of SMD strip in there. Plus they are crap strips, they are much brighter and better ones available.

I've just ordered some new strips to test, not for this BTW, it's a REALLY crap method of lighting the heater unit IMO. The new strips are for evaluation to see if they can be used in other units more suitable for their distinctive light pattern

How did I know you'd have a say in a thread regarding the crazy led heater unit. If your that bothered go and speak to them directly lol.

Why should I ? All I have to do is educate members to the fact they are getting ripped off and if they still want to part with their hard earned then at least they know the facts.

What bothers me is the fact you seem to get all upset about me saying they are ripping people off, are you getting commision from CrazyLeds.

Compare the CrazyLed kit to the boards Az was selling, his were approx £25 IIRC. Which makes them about the same price if you factor P&P in, are you seriously saying that his boards aren't 10 times better than this abortion? if you are then not only do you want your eyes testing but your brain as well.

What on earth are talking about? I simply lol'd at your constant posts about how crazy LED's are crap etc. Hence why I said you should speak to them directly if your so bothered.

I really couldnt care less about them tbh, I have them in my car and I think there a load of crap lol

Read other people's posts more carefully in future, instead of trying to cause an argument that wasn't there to begin with ;)

Now your being naive.

How on earth would me speaking to CrazyLeds make any difference? I mean if it was me making them I'd just say "hey your entitled to your opinion but a fool and his money are soon parted and I'm not forcing people to buy them"

The ONLY way to stop people from being ripped off is to advertise the fact that they are. If they still wish to buy then at least they've made an informed decision.

I'll keep on posting to this effect until his sales dry up, when they do he'll have 2 options, reduce the price or stop selling them. I have no problem with him making a profit, I however know EXACTLY how much those strips cost and he's making a VAST profit on them.

If he was making the strips himself then I'd not comment but he's buying them ready made, they are made to be able to be cut. All he's doing is wiring the cut sections together, 5min job I reckon. Materials £5, labour £2. The rest is profit. I'm being VERY generous with those figures, I could make the same strips for less than £2 I reckon. However I'm not going to, riping people off isn't how I make my jollies.

Oh and BTW the strips should come with double sided tape on them for ease of installation. His don't which points to the fact they are either inferior strips or very old stock.

LEDs cost pennies! Capitalising on the non handyman market is easy profit!

Oddjob would you be able to do something similar to what Az done with the boards?

Or is it too much for the hassle?

3AM
17-05-2008, 09:41
Oddjob. Your right. The boards are crap. They give crap illumination and are way over priced. The problem is that there is no other option for us other than the 2 bulbs which is even worse.
You would get so much business if you could make one like az's
if I could, I'd have a go at it !

Rocky
17-05-2008, 09:43
same here mate i was forced to buy these and its a crap idea crazy leds have done if you come up with something much better i defiantely buy it

the one az did looked great. The led's where in a circular patten to light up each icon, the fact that crazy's are in a strip makes the light pattern un- even. Its just the only thing to get.

Seedy

get my car back today, so will have a go at fitting it later on this afternoon. the ones that Az made look much better as i dont think my crazy leds ones will scatter the light evenly as most peoples dont. but i shall see a lil later on!

It takes a bit of fiddling about but you will get there in the end !

Rocky

mines just got the pinkish bit on the fan even put a bigger card in there either way you got to fiddle with the lights

I'm working on a heater plate similar to the one Az made. The problem lies in the thickness of the plate, I use a lot of 3mm stuff and TBH it's too thick for the heater as it won't go behind the lower buttons. I could use 1mm stuff but then it's fragile and easy to break.
I'll be going for slightly more LEDs than Az used, only because I like even lighting on the knob strips.
Can't seem to get round to finishing the project if I'm honest. I've got about 6-7 mods on the go at once, I tend to get bored and move onto the next until I feel like doing a bit on it again.

If I ever get it finished, and I will BTW, I'll post some pics up and offer an service where you can name the colours you want rather than just go down the blue and red route.

Looks like you have done a good job, you have the same problem as me with 2 of the logos duller than the rest but, still looks very good

Oh i think you need a bit more card in between the red and the blue leds so you dont have a pink fan logo, lol

Rocky

i sitll have the same problem arggggggggh i have to adjust it again i think!!

Seedy
19-05-2008, 18:16
yeh i need some more card! abit dissapointed with the 2symbols not being as bright though, surely there must be some way of reflecting the light to reach them?

I actually took my heater pannel off last night, ive stuck a long piece of card to that as well, inbetween the heate colors and the fan speed, about 1/5cm wide.
Try that, might work for you.
