Hey everyone.
Iv got a 12" alpine type R, running off a 600W Rms Vibe monoblock 3 amp, currently in a 1.0ft3 sealed box.
The problem is, the amp has a light to indicate when the signal is being clipped, and at the moment it seems that the sub isnt going as loud as i want before the signal becomes clipped.
To stop it clipping, what can i do?
I don't think my headunit has very high voltage outputs, so is there anyway i can increase it without changing h.u?
I know the box seems a bit small, but im in the process of building a 1.8ft3 ported one.
Thanks
turn the gain on the amp down that will stop it clipping. The box sounds a bit tight for a type r sub
1. Disconnect all signal inputs to the amp
2. Turn all sensitivity adjustments as low as possible
3. Turn head unit on to around 90% volume (not 100% or else
you'll have head unit distortion in there - unless you've got
a good head unit) with some music with which you're familiar,
and with EQ controls set to normal listening positions
4. Plug in one channel's input to the amp
5. Slowly turn that channel's gain up until you just start to
notice distortion on the output
6. Turn it down just a wee little bit
7. Disconnect current input
8. Repeat steps 4-7 with each input on your amp
9. Turn off head unit
10. Plug in all amp inputs, and you're done
If by some chance you do have an oscilloscope (and preferably a test
disc), you do essentially the same thing as above, except that you stop
turning the gains up when you see clipping on the outputs of the
amplifier.
Note that if you are paralleling multiple speakers on a single amp
output, you need to set the gains with all of the speakers in place,
since they will be affecting the power and distortion characteristics
of the channel as a whole.
This will also tell you if you have a damaged RCA, easiest way th is to put a Multi meter on them and measure the voltage as music is playing without them conected!

You can increase the signal going to the amp with a "line driver" as far as I remember its increases the voltage of your preouts so gives a more powerfull signal to the amp.
sombody add to/correct that if its wrong
This can help also if you have a crappy head unit!
But again its sumet else you need to scop!

Ok thanks people,
Wish i bought that alpine instead of the crappy LG.
So im going to either look into getting a line driver or Buy a new Alpine hu.
just depends on the money situ atm :(
