View Full Version : Crying over spilt milk
Well I aint yet, but it looks like I will be.
At PVS Chan very kindly bought me 2 pints of the cows finest. This then worked it's way to the floor under my passenger seat obscured by some of mr carlsberg beverages!
Came home Ill on Thursday, parked up and went to sleep.
Jumped in the car Monday morning to almost jump straight back out. The Stench is terrible :o
I removed all items from the car to find that the little plastic bottle that had slid out of site (and out of mind) had turned sour and leaked all over my carpet under the passenger seat.
The mat has gone the journey, but the carpet and sound deadedning below is still wet!
Before I take the ultimate plunge and remove the carpet for a jet wash/Steam clean Does anyone know of, or have a mother that has miracle cures for everything and knows How do I remove the smell of spilt sour milk from my carpet?
I really don't feel like stripping out the whole interior for this, but I can't see another way. A new carpet is £90 and an ultimate last resort.
Now it's my turn to ask for HELP!!!!!!!

Sour milk is caused by bacteria, you have to kill that bacteria before the smell even begins to go away. If it is down to the metal as you say, no matter how much you clean the carpet the stench will remain until you clean the metal aswell.
Oh and i nearly forgot the the sound deadening may have to be replaced, if it's down to that. Since its under the carpet it will always be a little damp (as it gets no sunlight) and the wetness will just harbor the smell for a long time.
But we can at least try to clean it without ripping it out....
Scrub the carpet with a good mix of carpet cleaner (as long as its the good stuff), then use a Wet/Dry vac. I would also consider steam cleaning it after this aswell. As for the smell, Megs have a nice odor remover, use this in conjuncture with fabreeze
I would get that Detailer mate of you'r's to give it his best shot

oust as well 8)
Sorted at last. After a couple of weeks of Cheesy Stench, The smell has gone. :D :D :D
Mind you I had to remove my interior, lift the carpet, shampoo, vax, shampoo, pressurewash, vax and then dry it out. The soundproofing on the bottom of the carpet was the worst for drying as it just holds onto water :x
Well last night I finally re-fitted my carpet and interior trims, and now it's all back together smelling good.

Soundproofin is basicly just like a thin saheet of tar to absorb vibrations kill rattles and noise, its stickyback so easy to fit.
The stuff that doesn't come on standard cars, ie dynamat or brown bread and so on is a LOT LOT LOT better, costs more, but the application process is the same

well f***ing put it back then as I said leave it!

Your car already has this. It's built into the carpet!!!! It's a standard thing, as I can guarantee without it you think the doors and windows are open!
You can add additional sound deadening materials to reduce noise and vibrations further which is what Tilford is on about.
DIY is probably the best way, but it requires time and patience!!
