View Full Version : new head unit, wiring to cigarette lighter

Just wondering if there is an easy way to wire my new sony HU wiring harness to the cigarette lighter for a live feed.
As at the moment I have got it connected to the constant feed and it stays on 24/7
basically where did you wire it too....is there a loose wire behind the headunit that runs to the cigarette lighter, or has anyone any advice how to/ and where to wire it too!

You shouldnt need to.
Have you swapped over the red and yellow wires on the loom ?

yes but this means I have got a constant live. as this is the only power source in the wiring loom.
As the stereo stays on constantly even when the keys out!
And this wouldent bother me if i could turn the HU off but its a sony that doesnt turn off.....if you leave the facia on it will still be doing some sort of display even when you press the off button!!!! its annoying I know,

i did mine to the cig lighter.
i bodged it, undid the plug at the back, wrapped the wire round the metal prong, and put the plug back on which squashed it in place :thumbs:

can you reach all the way down to the back of the cig lighter though?

undo ur gear gaitor and put ur hand under the cig lighter unit and push it out then u have acces to it

there is no need to do this! You have it wired wrong somewhere. There is a perm live and ignition live, you may have these the wrong way round...

thats the thing, the vauxhall wiring loom for my car only has a perm live!!!!! no ignition live in the vauxhall harness!!!

so therefore you have to either wire in your own ignition live from somewhere like many others have done
or
run the permenant live into the ignition live, with some headunits it allows them to be permenantly on, as mine is a sony it will not completely turn off!!!! it has some sort of display program that is constantly flashing even when the car ignition is off, and the doors are locked!
