View Full Version : can two new rear tyres have this effect?
ok, everything with my car was fine last week. (thats if you ignore the EM light like most of us do:))
i had two new tyres put on the rear, so i went from having two tyres with 2mm to new ones with 8mm each. i had them balanced. for a few days i only did town driving so all was well.
then i went on the motorway on monday, i noticed that the car felt unstable doing over 60, 80 felt very odd. the steering just felt really light, and my rear end just felt like my suspension had just died on me.
so anyway, i had a full service at kwik fit yesterday, got all the wheels balanced and got the tracking done.
AND i still have the same problem.
Could this feeling all be due to having two new tyres on the rear? like i mentioned ive got them balanced and tracked so im at a loss as to what the problem could be. :(
cheers
different brand of tyres?? economy budget tyres??
ive got two new toyo tr1 on the rear. not sure of the front brand. the front two are the same brand though.
so in theory i've got better tyres on the rear now.
if i were to swap the tyres round i.e put the rears on the front, would i have to rebalance them again, cuz they are going from the rear to the front? or is it the case that a balance tyre is fine regardless of where it is?
Basically no, you don't have to rebalance them, unless oyu take a big chunk out of them while swapping them around.

Like Mark said. Once they are balanced they would only need balancing if something happened to them.
Maybe the tyre pressure is too high or low? Only thing I can think it could be.
ok cheers, im gonna have play around with the pressures tomorrow and see what happens.

proxes are directional lol, please make sure the wheels bolts are tight!
kwik are renowned for that in my area.
Yeah defiantly check the wheel bolts etc kwik fit round here got in trouble for just doing them finger tight and then let you go, what was the road like you were on? wet dry bumpy etc?
so am i looking for arrows then rolling in the forward direct :)

this happend to me yesterday, i got 3 new tyres, 2 at the front and one for the rear, there falkon tyres 185/55 R15, paid £55 so i think there budget/midrange, when i went on mway and hit 70-80 i felt the car realy unstatble which is odd and when i slowed down the car NEARLY span out i just felt the back starting to wobble side to side so i eased off the breake and dropped gear and slowed down gradualy before coming off, what i reckon is the twat that changed my tyres put the right front wheel at the right back, and visa versa, so im going to change em round again and see if it changes,
best thing if you remmeber what wheel was where put them as it was reason i remember is that the front ones are kirbed more than the back loool
my old clio did the same got 2 nice tires on the back and roundabouts were a no go area for a couple of week would just spin out literaly (wel embarasin) but seemed to calm down after couple of weeks, can't think why else yours is doin that
