View Full Version : humming noise comming from wheels???

hi all i keep hearing a loudish humming noise coming from my wheels when driving {between 30mph onwards} i took the car out of gear and its not the exhaust. its been getting louder to. i think its one of my front wheels. would it be one of the wheel bearings on its way out?

whats the best way to find out ?? any help appricated ta :)

If you steer one way or the other at speed does it get louder or quieter?

If so it will be a wheel bearing.

When you steer the weight will shift more onto one wheel and put more pressure on the bearing, more pressure means more noise.

Another thing it may be is stepped tyres, but try that other test first.

Basically where the grooves in the tyre go out to the edge of the tyre, sometimes it becomes so the one edge of the groove is higher than the other. This can cause a droning noise but I've known it to be more noticeable at motorway speeds.

If you run your hand over the grooves one way its not too bad, rub the other way and it's kind of like a cheese grater.

Dont know if any of that made sense as that is the hardest thing I know to describe lol

this sounds like blatent wheel barings, you can get a kit off ebay for £38 i think, mine have gone at the front but aint that bad yet, my gfs are BAD, specialy when we go round a bend to the right it gets loooud

Wheel baring without doubt i reckon.

they HUM because is metal on metal vibrating etc lol
