Might be a stupid question but screw it im going to ask any way!! I have got a 1.2 Sxi and just wondered what the situation was with putting bigger brake disks on the car, is it a big job and what does it involve? Does it make the brakes better or worse due to havin drums on the rear? Pics would be handy if anyone has em.

The only reason i want em is cos just fitted 17s and the current disks look lost! Cheers for any help

Yes you can, you'll need to change calipers and discs.

You can also add the SRi rear beam to the back giving a rear disc conversion. For this you'll need a complete rear beam including disc, pads and calipers. A ramp or pit to work on it and a morning of your time.

How big would the wedge of cash need to be to complete this? Sounds like a big project to change the rear, although im sure it would look the dogs

Only one I know of cost £80 for the rear beam and the morning in a friends garage to fit it.

^cool, how much did they set you back if you dont mind me asking? Might be worth just doing what you have done cos i have always thought the brakes on the Sxi were abit sloppy

they are nothing special 2 look at only 150 for parts needed ! if u want discs that look good get rotter discs they look stunning but then again dont work great on the corsa ! or get a brake conversion from astra gte or summit !

roter discs are a waste of money

davy m
15-07-2005, 00:42

echo this - heard EBC are no good for road use.

personally i'd look into getting 4 pot brakes if you want to do them properly, but on a 1.2 it would be purely for show because the brakes will be far too powerful :D you'd also be about £500 out of pocket.

so you could get a Brembo conversion for £150? seems kinda cheap :dontknow:

Try about £400 if I remember my conversation with John at 2Modified. Give him a call if you want a brembo conversion.

£150 is replacement pads, and replacement discs. if you spend more and go for a big brake conversion, you will have to chage your caliper hangers, and maybe even your entire calipers if you want to go for oversized brake discs.

if you want to upgrade your brakes on a budget, then just go for replacement pads and discs as you will feel a difference, and will also have grooved and vented discs which look nicer :)

im dont just want to upgrade the performance, i love the look of the brembo big brakes :) so after i have paid my dad off i might have a chat with John then,

cheers for clearing that up :)

If you want brakes then im here!!!

Black Diamond are probably the best value for money, decent looks, good stopping power and a decent price, see my group buy thread and you may be suprised just how cheap they are!!

EBC - i dont even supply them due to so many bad reports, bits of the pads flaking off and burning the inside of wheels etc etc

Rotor - these do look good yes, havent heard bad reports about their stopping power but i havent sold that many sets! Im getting some for my car as they will go with my wheels!

As for Brembos i didnt supply Painzys but im good friends with him so im sure i can supply more sets, im not 100% sure on the cost but around the £400 mark seems a good bet..

anyway, anyone that wants brakes or advice just drop me a mail or PM (if my inbox has room) and we can discuss the best individual option for your car :)

If i buy some brakes n pads n take them wiv me when i get my car serviced, do you think vauxhall will fit them while they service it?

Service is due soon and im sure the discs n pads are getting ready so may as well kill two birds wiv one stone!

Can't figure why people think EBC is bad.

I've a set of Greenstuff on my motor, and they certainly stop a lot better than the Lucas Woodmaster pads the car came with. They're a lot cleaner than the Lucas pads too. I bought them not expecting all that much, as I'd also heard bad things, but I always think bad news travels quicker than good news.
