Post yours up in here!

My first pano, which was a handheld shot one at Seaham. Was made up of 4 images, IIRC. I think there was 5, but the end one didn't match on, so I had to shorten it a bit.

Awesome. You got any examples of it on the phone? IIRC, some one on Corsa-D has a Sony Ericsson phone with the option, and they look alright.

Ah right, cool.

CS3 on the MacBook is pretty cool. Much better than the PC version. Runs much faster, and sleeker.

Lol, yeah. I found one of Andy's who has the option on his phone.

Random question for everyone... How do you take your pano's, in landscape, or portrait. I done that one for Seaham in Landscape, but then I thought why don't I do it in portrait, so I can actually get a taller one. Never gave it a thought when I first tried it.

Whittie
31-08-2008, 18:10
I've got a pano portrait of Anfield Football Ground, only as I could fit more in, but lost it along with all my photo's a few weeks back  Had to shop the reflections out though as it was in the box.

Buildings like castles etc i've dont a few portraits, but landscapes.... landscape

Try a few mate

Keith Fusco
31-08-2008, 18:12
Lol, I meant which way do you hold up the camera. IE - I took four shots on the one I posted in landscape orientation. But if I done it in portrait, I'd have took maybe 8, but the actual size would be taller, aswell as wide. If that makes sense?

Whittie
31-08-2008, 18:55
Yeah, ^ Did it with a football stadium and a castle  as i've lost all my pics, can't upload i'm afraid

Take a series of pictures which overlap each other of a specific thing, and then put them together in Photoshop, or something like PTGui.

Lol, I'm still here. I've been working mainly, so I haven't been able to take many pictures. Well, hardly any. Only some of the weekend, when I got mashed up.

Some crappy one's from Kenya. Most made with about 10 images each. Shame there was things in the way at the side of the pictures.

Thanks. I think the second one's the best too. I've got another five different things to try to convert into Pano's too, but they're going to take AGES as some are about 20-30 images.

There's one of the beach I'm wanting to do next, which is pretty much a full 360 degrees, but I did them all freehand, so it's a bit of a bugger.

Photoshop Photomerge takes years. I think the lowest file size of the completed Pano was about 848MB. But I obviously changed the size once it was done.

Came to 25,000ish pixels for the long edge lol. I could fit that bitch on a 40 foot wall, and fill it!

keith how dare you call them 'crappy' lol
they are absolutely stunning, the view is great and the quality of the pics is fab too.

is there any advantage of taking like 20 images per pano, as opposed to say 5?

Lol, they are crappy.

I think the main advantage is what you already mentioned, the amount of things you can view, and the quality. Like I took the pictures holding the camera in a portrait mode, so that I can get more in from the top to the bottom, which is why I took so many pictures to compensate for the lack of view from left to right.

Like I said earlier too, the more you take, the bigger the end picture is. Like the one with 10 images was about 25,000 pixels wide, which is insane. I did shrink it down to a smaller size, but when I done it, the image was stunning, and such good quality. If it wasn't for the image size being just under 1gb, I'd have uploaded it!

Thanks mate!

This one was only made up of 8 free hand taken images. I tried to get more, but it was pointless, as there'd be a lot of overlapping. You could see loads, but either side of where you were, there was things which blocked the view (Rest of the mountain, tress etc) lol.

That last one you posted is quality, gotta real nice range of scenery in it.

Though how do you take them? Just guessing the overlap, or using something similar like most phones have, where it displays a section of the previous photo in the corner of the screen.

Thanks.

I took it with a Canon 400D, and the kit 18-55mm lens. I started at the left hand side of the view, and went to the right taking pictures after moving a slight bit. I find it best to take the pictures with the camera on the side, so you can fit more in from top to bottom, as you can cover up for left to right, by taking a number of pictures.

There's a fair few which'll overlap. It's best to just pick a bit on the picture you just took on the right hand side, and then include it on the left hand side of the picture too, so you know you're not missing anything out on the full pano which'll be created.

I then use Phtoshop, and there's a option under File called Automate, and also Photomerge. Then just load the images, and Photoshop does the rest. I then save as a PSD, and then load into Lightroom, and edit it.

Neil H
17-09-2008, 20:31
Not strictly on topic, but how come you do all the editing in Lightroom when you've already got Photoshop already open?

Oh and coincidentally, when you say Photoshop, are we talking CS3 or Elements?

Keith Fusco
17-09-2008, 20:35
I prefer Lightroom for my editing, as I have all my presets, and stuff, and it's a hell of a lot easier, and quicker to edit in Lightroom over Photoshop, I think. I also had a problem before with images I edited in Photoshop, where it'd be fine on my laptop, but too dark, or too soft on other machines, and Lightroom, it's the same on all.

Photoshop CS3. :)

Fair shout, i'm making do on a free copy of PS elements at the moment. Though i should really get round to buying a full version of some sort of editing software.
