Aston Villa winger Nolberto Solano's return to Newcastle United now looks to be back on.

The Peruvian was linked with a move to St James' Park, providing Villa were given James Milner on loan in exchange.

Earlier on Wednesday, Magpies chairman Freddy Shepherd dismissed any notion of a deal being done.

But it now appears Shepherd has had a change of heart and is trying to push through Solano's return to Tyneside before the transfer deadline, with the player undergoing a medical.

Solano originally left the club for Villa 18 months ago and was linked with a switch to Liverpool earlier this month.

Villa boss David O'Leary scotched any chance of Solano joining the European champions and was adamant the wide man was staying at the club.

O'Leary, though, appears to have been tempted into letting Solano rejoin Newcastle on the proviso he gets Milner. The Villa boss worked with the England Under-21 international at Leeds United and Milner is understood to be in the Midlands to finalise his switch.

If everything goes through, an excellent signing imo, we should have never sold him.

Will benefit Milner aswell as he will most likely be playing week in and week out, so should bring him on well. :)

Well, we rated him and that can't be denied but well, we were often waiting for the big step up which just never came. The lad is a graceful footballer, elegant on the ball etc but I can't remember the last really great game he had and I wonder where his exact position in the team really is - defensive midfielder? Attacking midfielder to get 10 goals per season? Type of player who can create loads of chances? None of those really. Can't remember when he really dominated a game and really made a difference.

Jenas' career is at a cross-roads. We're no that impressed with players who tell the world they "want to play in London" - that just seems all a bit Alain Goma doesn't it? And I wonder what happened to him - sipping an Espresso in some poncey London coffee bar imagining he's at the centre of the world and failing to notice his talent has been wasted.

If Jenas' primary motivation in wanting out of NUFC is easier access to the Funky Buddha and to "chill" with his mates from East 17 or whoever, then I think the relationship between a lad who first began causing the tf poiltburo worries when he stuck a diamond-encrusted stud in his lug, demanding to be called Jeeeenas and hanging around with King Bling, Kieron (hey, Graeme, you've flogged all my homies) Dyer was best terminated. See ya, wouldn't wanna be ya - as some might say!

i think that's pretty much spot on

One of the best right sided midfielders and so consitent in the premiership imo.

jenas - the more i think about it, the more that young player of the year award messed him up. he really just didn't bother after that. he bottled it, is the best way of describing it.

solano - defends AND attacks well, although he had a few seasons here where he bottled every challenge but hes past that. hes professional and i can't think of many better right wingers who u can fully rely on.

if it was made obvious, u'd be surprised at how many teams were interested, u missed liverpool off the list, they tried to sign him. teams like man utd and arsenal dont really need him btu i reckon if he was there he'd challenge for a place quite easily
