CORSA-C|UK MAINTANANCE

Firstly, SORRY for Corsa-C|UK not being online, however there was nothing that I could do about it as you will read below.

Offline: Site went offline at around 21:30 on Thursday 15th September 2005
Online: Site came back online at around 23:00 on Monday 19th September 2005

RIGHT... Let me try and cut what’s an unbelievably long story into a few sentences and bullet points :D

What Happened?
• We took the site offline as we had been having problems with our host, and it had got as bad as that we couldn’t even manage the site or forum anymore. We could log into our account but everything was blank, even the name of the site was showing yourname.com instead of corsa-c.co.uk, you couldn’t access the database either. So I took the site offline to have a look into the problem and see if I could get it sorted.

• First thing I did was take a backup of everything, which was bloody lucky I did. Contacted he hosting company to ask them a few questions and the email bounced back :o tried to log onto their site and nothing. They had just disappeared without warning etc... so its bloody lucky Corsa-C|UK was backed up when it was or it now wouldn’t exist at all!!! (you can thank me later :| )

So Now What?
• Hunted for a server (new hosting company) so we could get Corsa-C|UK back online as soon as possible, and after speaking to Gaz (gonkowonko) he recommended somewhere that seemed as though it would meet our needs (for now?). I spoke to Si and got him to sign up etc... Next was the waiting game IE... getting our username and password, ordering the databases to have a forum and all that good stuff.

• Soon as the details came through i began work... thought ah this will be easy just go into new database click import and select my backed up one... ohhhhh boy how wrong was I. :( Did what I sadid just then and straight away and error. Our database wasn’t compatible with their version of the database it was going into :x I could see the problem in the backup and spent the next 3-5 hours going through the code manually editing it to make it work. Tried to upload and YAY it worked, or so i thought. Opened up the forum "database error"

• Sooo after trying lots of things etc... I decided I had to install vBulletin again from scratch. that’s the easy bit nice and simple 5min job. :D Next was to import the forums, threads, posts from within vBulleting and again this didn’t work, it seemed to import correctly however the forums were all over the place, duplicated usergoups/users. It even assigned posts to the wrong people and put threads in the wrong section. Wasn’t happy at all.

• This left me with one thing to do... do it all manually - HENCE why its taken so long, already had all the set backs needed and now this. I wont even begin to explain what’s involved in this as it would take too long and prob not make any sense. All I will say is that it involved lots of download and uploading of files, and then of editing them, then editing database tables, then testing etc.. WHAT A NIGHTMATE

Conclusion?
• Well Corsa-C|UK is now live, and I would like to thank a few people: - MartynBez: Martyn listened to me moan for hours  Seriously he uploaded files for me and ran scripts - Gaz (gonkowonko): Helped me "learn" things i didn’t know about databases... and helped me get this back up and running. Will all ow him a big thanks. - Sam (corsa_babe): ERM... lets just call her Miss. Refresh (she can explain)
• Once again SORRY about all of this, but I hope from reading the above you will understand a bi more as to why it was offline for so long. I also hope you appreciate all the effort myself and others have put into getting this back online, and if you notice ANYTHING that isnt working (apart from what’s covered below) then please PM or email me!

Points To Note! • If you subscribed to threads/posts events you will need to do this again.
• Extra Members: Avatars will need re-uploading
• Extra Members: Gallery pics will need re-uploading
• Ka$h's email address is now kash@corsa-c.co.uk and not ka$h@.... (new server didn’t like the $)

^^ Yep that’s all not bad going I think: lol: (Even managed to save PMs)

IMPORTANT: Now this is amazing, after all that manual work ONLY and I stress only as its bloody good going 27 posts were lost :o :o hehehe Yep I am proud of that :look:

Notice to current Corsa-C|UK Extra members:
ANYONE and I mean ANYONE seen to be moaning about wanting full or part money rebates due to this downtime via posting/pm/emailing it will be taken seriously (even if you mean your comments to be a joke). Your payment will be refunded in full and your account de-activated/removed from the Corsa-C|UK database. This may sound a little severe, however there have already been peoples comments floating about relating to this which we can’t seem to be believe. You have to understand we’ve not just pulled the site offline for no reason a lot of work has been put into the site since Thursday night with myself only getting about 10/11 hours sleep and don’t really need to be hearing comments of this nature!

Server Update
Thie server we are now hosted on should be a little more reliable/quicker than the previous host but this is NOT the new dedicated server, which was talked about in the first Extra Members Details thread. This server is just a replacement that we sourced quickly so that Corsa-C|UK was offline for as little a time as possible. So please don’t ask when new features are coming as its not happening just yet... however I may have a few surprises on the way ;) Well... that was the short story, and thank god I only gave you that: lol:

Cheers Daz
