It will put more strain on parts obviously, dont know about handling, performance - 1.2 + performance :? :P

if youve got the right profile of tyre it wont affect the steerin column at all

19-10-2005, 19:10
It shouldn't effect the steering column at all. Steering rack, maybe but not column

Thats what im on at the moment, Been a month now i think. No problems so far thank god. But just slowed it down which isnt a suprise, anyway there are road limits for a reason.

Not lowered either due to my friends weight (another topic). No rubbing either at the moment.

Its noticiable, dont get me wrong it isnt SLOW. But acceleration is not as good. But once your say doing 35mph in 3rd and u put ur foot down it still moves. But not as much. But hey, the car looks sweet with them so im gonna put up with it.

im also contemplating fittin 18" alloys after writing off one of my 17"s after a bad run in with a kerb, dont wanna hijack the topic but didnt wanna start a new 1 bout the same thing...

the thing worryin me here is rubbing, i want the same wheels I had but the 18" version which are "Titan Chaos" available in 7.5x18 4x100 et45 fitted with 215/35/18 toyo proxes.

I also want the car dropped maybe 30mm but still at times have a full car + boot install, whats the chances of me having a bad rubbing situation?

Very likely mate. 215 wide tyres rub on 17's so it's almost a guarantee with them being bigger. You'll need to get the liners trimmed as well as the arch spats. and you should be alright. Mind you if you are running a 1.8 you will have bother with those rims on your calipers

with et 45 i think u may get away without any rubbing atall!!
if you do get some it wil be nothing seious

mine in et40 rubbed, but u cut away the arch and now back are totally slent and front very rearly make a noise

Corsa-Craig
23-10-2005, 19:26
goin from extreme to extreme....im runnin a 1.0 not a 1.8 hehe so i wont have the bother with the calipers, i'll find a bodyshop and get a price for getting the arches trimmed before I get it lowered then. Cheers

tbh imo lowering donest make a difference to rbbing, just reduces it. u wann get rid of it all together

i doubt it affect acceleration that much, i remember when me and mark set off at the lights at a slight pace :| and we was level...he had 15's i had 17's

Corsa-Craig
24-10-2005, 22:18
im still unsure bout this....i mean whats happens when turning the wheels? doesnt the front catch on the arch? lookin at pics they seem quite deep into the arches :|...especially if i have a passenger in the front

Gulzar Tipu
24-10-2005, 22:44
i would not put 18s ona 1.0!!!!!!

:nono:

17's maximum, then it'd be v.slow, even my 1.0 is slow as **** on 15's but they are very wide

Corsa-Craig
24-10-2005, 22:46
hmm this post has led me to reconsider ever so slightly lol...more ppl with 18s post here and comment on your scrubbing situation please :|

its just from time to time i do have a full car, aswell as big passengers, i myself am coming up 13 stone, plus i have 2 subs in the boot which i cant see being too healthy for it

i said b4 its probly not gonna be a 1 litre much longer, when i upgraded to my 17s i was told i shouldnt cuz it would be slow but i never noticed a difference tbh, it still does the speed limits

G2-MDA
24-10-2005, 22:51
stood me 18s next to my 15s and toms 17s and there was hardly anyhting in it ! its just a bigger rim and a smaller tyre really ! so shouldnt be that bad hopefully !

Corsa-Craig
24-10-2005, 23:12
exactly, you gotta take into consideration that usually as the wheel size goes up...the tyre profile comes down

having just said that i cant see why 18s would rub any more than a 17 lowered 30mm :S

they prob wont as toms didnt and his was down 30mm its just the with of them ! if it does rub its in the edge of the arch not the top ! its th et as in et38 - 42

Corsa-Craig
25-10-2005, 00:27
aye mine are et45, i heard this was one of the best offsets available for the c...although that was when i got my 17s, is this still applicable for 18s?

got my 17s back on my 1.8 now and im sorry but the handling is miles better. it actually feels like it was built to go around cornres!

and accelaration/pick-up is mile better to, so it they do make a difference!!!

BUT THE THING THAT I CANT UNDERSTAND!!!!

THE RIDE WITH MY 17S IS MUCH FIRMER THAN ON 18S!!!!

i feel every bump!
i cant expain this,
one for kash?

Corsa-Craig
25-10-2005, 18:13
so should I just stick with my 17s and get it lowered? are 18s too much hastle if your lowered?

you wouldnt even know you have them on lowered or not

get the right offset (et42 to et45) and u should b fine, maybe just a slight bit of trimming on the plastic arch lip but if u not lowering it then it will b fine (although i reckon u shoould drop it 30mm as it will sit very high with 18s on :) )
