View Full Version : HELP-New Alloys touchin calipers
As title, just been out fitting my new 17's and on the front ones, the mounting face of the wheel is touching the brake caliper. I haven't driven on them yet coz i don't was to knacker anything up but when i turned the wheel by hand the caliper dug a small ridge in the wheel. see pics
1st pic shows the 17 touchin the caliper no gap, the 2nd shows with 15's on, gap!!

Any suggestions? Will it be ok to drive on??
Thanks
so when the 17s are on there is no gap at all and its touching? - u need some 5mm spacers in that case then mate.
thats just gonna balls everything up for me coz i'm on ET40 and i've got it lowered on 30mm eibachs, is there no other way??
You can go with 3mm spacer rings instead givin and effective et37 which will be tight on the arches. What size tyre you on Andy?
205's, am i gonna be grinding my arches??
nah, when R14LST took his silver one to vauxhall, they just 'flexed' the arch a bit and the liner was tighter to the wing than others. You might or might not need to, it's all down to tolerances tbh and 3mm doesn't sound alot, but if your liner is further out by the same it will be fine. It's a suck it and see one I'm afraid.
K
Cheers Kash, think i'm gonna go and  for a bit and then make a start trying to rectify this problem.

You can shave about 3 mm off the brakecaliper handles where it touches the rim, no danger in doing that m8.

thats a very good idea how much do you rekon you could shave off before it would have an effect on the brakes ?

Well you don't want it too thin soo that'll be able to break in 2, but since it's only a handle and basically doesn't have much of a function there's not much danger in getting some off so your rims just fit and don't hit it anymore.
On a downside, that stuff is proper strong metal so get a good grinder and start sweating.
 like the idea but i've ordered some new wheels and fingers crossed they'll miss the calipers.
Anyone wanna buy a brand new set of 17inch wheels that don't fit the C with standard calipers?
I would say it's a reject alloy as when i had my first set of alloys i had the same problem on the front right caliper, the left was fine :S
Took it back to where i bought the wheels from and they replace it will another alloy and it cleared it fine, and they were only et38
It's nothing to do with the offset of the wheels because its the mounting face that is touchin caliper, probably still rejects like!!
i had this probly aswell but wen i had my car lowered then shaved a lil bit of the caliper and wheel so no need 4 spacers now
Surely it doesn't make a difference if the car is lowered or not, the height of the caliper and the wheel wouldn't change, would it???

No it won't.
yep, thats what i thought, i think there is some confusion over the actual problem here!!

wat we r sayin is that when you have spacers on and your car lowered it rubs. :)
I get u mate, having spacers = lower ET which in turn = rubbing on arches. thought u meant on the caliper!

andy give me a shout to tell me how easy it is to take 3mm off the brakes coz i may do that myself.

Decided to leave the caliper alone for now coz i've just ordered a new set of 17's, hopefully these ones will clear the caliper, i'll be posting again if they don't and might give the caliper thing a try.
