removing cdr 2005

Having serious problems removing the standard head unit, after 3 hours of deforming the unit in anger it wont still budge out more than half an inch, i've given up after stabbing my hand with a screwdriver while using force to try and bend that lock.:x


Any suggestions which don't involve removing the dash? :thumbs:

one of the top locks has been bent so couldn't use removal keys which is why i tried forcing out. vauxhall wanted 60 odd quid to remove it so told em where to stick it.

had no problems in me other car, took 20 seconds to remove.

i think a hammer will be used once its out lol

use some torx screwdrivers in the holes, mine was like that but get some good solid torx screw drivers in and get about two mates to all randomly waggles them from side to side... it'll eventually move slight on one side, find something softish to wedge behind it to stop it clicking back in and just keep yanking... :D

I'm well confused with all this like, so far i get that u need to undo the grub scews, yes? then what? where do these 'keys' go and what exactly do they do? can u not improvise with something?

keys go into those 4 holes and push a clip thats locked onto the head unit cage inwards which should unlock for easy removal. keys cost £4 from halfords for a set... can also use old bent coat hangers.

i had this, one of the clips bent when i tried to remove it, get some removal keys to undo the ones that are ok, remove the heater venst above.

Now shove a huge flat head screwdriver down the back and the pry the front of the sterio off, you can now see what your doing, find which one is bend and push it back with a small flat head screwdriver, should then pull out.

i spent 2 days getting the b*****d out!

got it out today with the help of a mate and various tools lol.

keys from halfords are made for vauxhal double din units.

used 4 small screwdrivers like shown in the pic, still fairly tough to get out like but saves buying them keys.

screwdrivers are bent to S**t now like, so use ones you don't really care about!!!
