I hate 6x9s, especially on parcel shelves.
Component sets are superior in every way.
Subwoofers are superior in every way.
There is no in-between.

Who else hates 6x9s?

Yes i agree.

If you prefer SQ, stay well away from 6x9's. If all your into is streetbass then ok, whatever tickles your pickle. Read no further:)

YFor a decent sounding basic system, you should have a decent set of comps amped and a sub. tweeters dealing with all those nice high vocals, mids in the door and some nice tight bass from your sub.

If you are running a sub, there is no need for 6x9's!! Comps are far superior.
There is no need to have bass in any of your speekers when you have a sub.

You are the driver! you want your soundstage to be coming from the front of your car as well.

I dont think a lot of people have heard a decent set up sytem, its seems to be a case of lets get some big subs and 6x9's so i we can hear it from streets away:lol:

I will say it again, 6x9's are the path to evil.:nono:

i agree having 6x9s and a sub in me old car changing to some high end components and a couple of decent subs is a world of difference it is so much better.

The only thing is that some tracks play on the rear channels only and that aspect is lost then that stirs up the hole arguement for rear fill speakers or not.

i love my 6x9s because:

a) i need the bootspace, so cant have a sub

b) can't afford a sub and comps

c) better sound than standard

only thing thats bugging me is that my wires havnt been tied up and now a connection has snapped. hope it can be fixed

Countdown got it spot on.

Anyone who has bought 6x9s can afford components, they are the same bloody price most of the time! Pick up a ****ty sub for 20quid off the forum and you are done.

Anyone who says they can't afford components or a sub should look at the replacement cost of a parcel shelf, a window tint and a new set of 6x9s. Because that is what you will be up for when a smackie walks past...

Then again, when I see certain installs that have spent big money on an in-dash screen and have 6x9s it really irks me! Or even worse, custom installs that have 6x9s up front in the doors (hint hint) haha

The only thing is that some tracks play on the rear channels only and that aspect is lost then that stirs up the hole arguement for rear fill speakers or not.

You don't have surround sound set up in the car perchance?

CDs are only stereo (left/right) and cannot differentiate between front/rear. I think you may have a problem elsewhere :)

Wrong answer.

A sub is for sub bass.

Midbass/midrange/highs come from full range speakers such as components. Why would you add 6x9s which are a full range speaker when you have components from the factory? You are just doubling up.

If anything spend the money on a sub instead with your factory system. Amp the factory components and I guarantee it will sound ten-fold better than 6x9s with a factory system.

Try nickelback - money bought that appears to have rear channel sound only in certain sections unless the old 6x9s where pulling the sound stage to the back of the car??.

I dont have rear speakers these days only CDT audio comps up front and CDT audio subs in the boot.

have you tried the vibe sa69?? they are a fantastic set of 6x9's when amps.

Sub handles bass
comps handle treble and some bass
6x9s can handle the mid bass and the treble

You've hit the nail on the head there! I'm guessing it would be somewhere around the midrange that would sound like it was coming from the rear, as this is where most of the "information" our ears detect and and pinpoint as source.

Excellent choice, I have CDT Eurosport tweeters with StageUp kit that are on ambient duty currently and they are fantastic.

To be honest, i thought 6x9s were amazing when i first upgraded all my speakers! fitted new components up front and 6x9s on a stealth shelf in the rear! The bass was solid, and the treble was clear. How wrong was i! I agree the fact that 6x9s give a lot more bass compared to the standard sound setup. Yes, you get some bass and a lot more volume. Now that i have had sub for a few years, i cannot live witout one! I sacrifice my bootspace for that sub! i use my backseats more for shopping than my boot! lol! If you are happy with ur 6x9s, trust me, one day u will get a sub and will get rid of them. I certainly did when one day i took out my shelf and realised how much better it sounded without my 6x9s. The louder i played my music, the better it sounded. Amazing....

When i listen to 6x9s now, the bass is so loud, it rattles my brains and gives me a headache. It just aint low enough to be called bass. The midrange is so loud, you are deafened when you turn it up. The treble is just not as crisp when coming from the rear, its just drowned out by the ear piercing midrange! But if you like that kinda tight, loud, punchy bass and ear piercing volume, fair play to you. I used to, but can no longer stand it...

I think which 6x9s you have and what type headunit make a whole lot of differance not to mention what type cabeling you wire up with, I have Pioneer 4 way 6x9s and pioneer 8600 Headunit wired up with monster cable the sound is amazing. the 8600 gives me so many optiones for getting the best out of all my speakers, I guess im trying to say a good set of 6x9s and a decent headunit you should be able to adjust the sound enough so that the bass does not rattle you brain or anything ellse.

And Dont forget what cables you use are as important as the Amp-Headunit-and speakers

I got some 6x9's 1st so the sound would be better than standard.

I've since added 2 subs and 1 amp into the boot.

EVENTUALLY I will change front comps and amp them up too but at the mo the 6x9's are staying as they give better sound than the VX speakers.

If I could afford to get comps I would do but TBO i'd probs re-locate the 6x9's to the middle of the car to keep the midrange sound.

How much was the price of your 6x9s and stealth shelf? I bet you could have bought a set of component speakers for the money.

As for me being arrogant, I worked two jobs whilst studying full time for 18 months to pay for my audio equipment. In that time I drove my car every day listening to my discman. Oh and I'm two years older than you. If you want something bad enough you'll find a way to get it.

So don't cry, it's alright, we are all grown-ups here.

so what exactly is the best set-up for a corsa?

I currently have:
pionneer p70BT
rockford fosgate mono block P3001, running...
alpine type s 12" subs x2.
alpine type s components (front, and not amped)
mac audio 6x9s (also not amped and am wanting to get rid, as are years old now  )

Ive been thinking about getting another set of the alpine type s components and mounting them on my fake stelf shelf. Is this what people mean when they say don't get 6x9s get components? Or do u mean, get components at the front, and some decent coaxials to replace the standard rear speakers?

Don't worry about rear speakers, don't buy any new ones and put the 6x9s on ebay. Put the budget for an amp for those Alpine components.

Thats a nice list of equipment, as long as it is installed safely you should be happy. As for the best setup, a lot of people were impressed with how my setup sounded first time round, but you never know if you can do better unless you try so I've pulled all of it out to start again :)

since 6x9 are playing full range, is it possible to have better sound quality than a set of compos??even if they are runt with an amp. if you run with an amp 6x9 you can also run components using an amp . and believe me the sound will be better at the second case. maybe it will not be louder, but it will certenly have better quality!thats why the most expensive pair of compos would cost 3 or 4 thousands euros, an the most expensive pair of 6x9 does not cost over 600 euros!!!!

Not the best unless you can:
a) afford to build your own crossovers;
b) afford some pretty full-on processors such as the H701 Alpine or Pioneer P90RS accompanyment;
c) afford more channels.

The ballpark just got bigger. Nonetheless, I ripped out my old install so I can run more amps active :)

Why? Because I know more about the subject than you?

I think a lot of the people who think 6x9s are the duck's nuts have not heard a good sounding system.

On the other hand I've heard 6x9s (and 7x10s, natch) installed every which conceivable way and have yet to be impressed.

You took in upon yourself the first time you posted in this thread to insult me rather than my qualified opinion, going on further to say "I'm not voting." Since then you have not contributed to the discussion in any useful way shape or form apart from throwing barbs my way.

If you have a problem with the substance of the thread take it up with the moderators. If you have a problem with me, again do the same. However if you want to target me individually and continue to be belligerant then I will seek redress.

Pull your head in.
