View Full Version : Dumbing down abs

Is there anyway to dumb down the abs slightly, seems to be kicking in wayyy before lockups would occur and its getting on my tits now, has times of being fine, then periods of just kicking in when even doing light braking (I have been keeping an eye on it over time, its not something that has just happened (i.e. the **** weather)
Any ways of doing this or have I just got to put up with borring / annoying brakes? or could it be pads are near there end?
Really wanted bigger brakes as although brake performance is good its not great... Just dont wanna go up a few mm in size and just find myself with a stuttering brake pedal all the time due to abs.

Does yours seem worse when u slowing down at a junction n turn the wheels slightly?
Mines goes mental every day at work where their is a hump in the road, could be wet or dry n it still kicks in even when i crawling along.

aye, well braking and cornering normally does feck up abs a lil bit anyway, but mine at times is utterly crap, like hardly touch the pedal n it goes solid with the typical abs jitters....

Not cornering like a loon!!! Just when i comin into a junction den near the white line just turnin in a bit pedal goes nuts!
Take it down to a mechanic n get ur pads/discs checked. Could even be your tyre wear is it uneven??
Failin that get the sensors checked could be a dodgy one, or a connection.

aye know what ya mean mate, get the same with 'light cornering'
Tyre wear seems ok, braking seems even but will get it checked out soonish, i am generally a late braker, which dosent help but even when braking within normal boundaries it is kicking in wayyy early.

Yeah problem with that theory is theres a corner on the junction I get off the motorway, approach at like 80, max cornering speed is probably about 50

hand brake.!!!! lol. no i dont have a clue on this answer.... but would be really interested as it would make my company car nicer to drive (Vectra Estate)
take the abs unit off

Get some decent tyres that grip the road.
Poor grip is what affects the abs mate. Decent rubber and you'll be fine. Also drive sensibly, Don't comment on that bit, I've been in the car with you remember!

Erm dont think ya can get much better than goodyears mate, and yes tread is fine, just seems to go tits up every so often, then saying that gave it a thrashing down the lanes on way home, late braking no worries. stupid car
And I wasnt that bad with you and the car (if you where gary or sam I wouldnt say that :| )
Also it dosent even feel like im close to locking up / lossing grip sometimes when ya get the abs kicking in.... Like really light braking and it goes wayyy not having any of that, lift and brake twice as hard and its fine.

Andy ya fool i got a solution:
Get yourself a set of these n take ur fakin big boots off! that way you will be able to feel the pedals instead of stamping blindly!!! ;)

FPMSL
I've been thinking about it, and it seems its more 'light' braking it seems to kick in on, and the last minute lunges it seems ok.
Ah well i'll live :) just wondered if there was a simple method to tell it to bog off a bit

neer dont wanna start pulling fuses
Just wondering does abs try and keep the wheels all spining at the same speed under braking, or just stop lockups per wheel?

Stop lock ups. i think

fair play, thought as much

abs stops one wheel or more from locking up, if it was to stop them spinning at a different speed there would be no point in having the diff in the gearbox.
mine does that abit aswell andy.

hehe true, my bad *holds head in shame for even thinking of the ludacris thought*
Tom - Seems like a general thing after speaking to a few people, kicks in for no / next to no reason sometimes :(
yeah does it on my drive all the time. its on hil, but its fairly bumpy tarmac, just likes its a bit too sensitive. maybe cos its such a light car:dontknow:
my dads cicks in just at the right time:lol:
