right click on the just next to the 'help' word and untick the one that says 'address bar'!
^^^
i think they want to do it so employees cant put stuff in, im guessing they want u 2 stick 2 links u are provided with? cause they could just right click again and bring it back
i think on windows xp u can do it under "set program access and defaults" on start menu...
not entirely sure though ill investigate further :P

Theyre are soo many loop holes in ie they are best going with some sort of secure browser, such as netshift or similar. Although you can hack IE to death probably best doing that, netshift themselves went bust but came out again as someone else, there licenses are stupidly expensive and are mainly aimed at the kiosk environment.
The pc's to be used for other stuff than internet explorer? (could always replace ie shortcuts with links to webpages that execute in a restricted window with no toolbars?)
Easy, just right click the toolbar and untick 'Address Bar' Unfortunately it's that easy to bring it back. Also you can access pages from the run command. Or word. Or Excel. Or Almost any microsoft application. So really you are well stuffed.

wouldn't work, see my Microsoft explanation above. You'd just type in an address in word, hit return and then click it!

Aye :(
Guessing its a regular workstation wanting access to just selected websites?
Could always form a blocked and allowed list on there firewall (depends how good a firewall obviously) but could set it to just allow certain webpages?

aye hadnt thought of that.
I work with alot of restricted access kiosks but they are generally restricted to everything (inc windows) and only allowed to follow links around certain websites, but you still tend to find a site somewhere with a friggin google link
if you want to ristict access use the content ratings inside ie, you can get a .rat file from microsoft that allows you to say only allow specified sites, only problem is if someone deletes the rat file they have unlimited access again.
Could take a look through these?

As Andy said IE is so eaisly hackable, you could maybe blocking it throught group policy but theres simple ways round as adding a shortcut to webpage or start, run, website address - agreed with above best way is firewall allowed list
