i did it in 5 mins, the tutorial shows you how to do it and its really easy. the only difficult bit is forcing your battery leads around the plastic to gain sufficient space to get the filter in and out...

you could always disconnect them but that takes time lol

if the pollen filter is blocked will it slow down the air coming through my vents? im gettin verry poor presure through the vents, do you think the filter could be my problem? thanx

Hi Folks,
I changed my pollen filter today because of poor air flow rather than bad smells and a cruddy windscreen. The filter was so bad I dislodged leaves and creatures whilst removing it and they fell into the blower motor. These came flying out of the vents nearly blinding me so be careful. I ended up dismantling the blower motor housing to remove a stubborn leaf that had wedged in there making a right racket on setting 3 and 4.
It easier to fit than the air filter really as you don't even need a screw driver.
I got my filter from a local motor factors and it was a right turd to fit, although it was the same size, the Plastic bits at the side were slightly larger (wider) than the OE one. It dropped in lovely with the air flow the wrong way around, but was very tight the correct way. I don't think the paper element matters which way the air flows, its just the sealing stripps would not be seated correctly.

did it improve your air flow rate?

It will improve your flow rate. You may also wanna check the flaps behind your boot carpet, if they are ceased shut then you will get high pressure nd no flow.

TouchingCloth
26-07-2010, 12:26
Yes it improved my flow rate, I was looking to improve the flow rate to noise ratio from the blower. I went to take out the old one just to see if not having one in made a significant difference. It does indeed and on seeing the state of the old one no wonder. You could possibly get away with cleaning out the large debris and brushing out all the crap while holding a vacuum over it. but for the price of a new one (5) and ease of fitting its worth putting a fresh one in.
It will be interesting to see how long it takes to look as bad as the old one, and how long before the flow rate decreases. It seems that the pores in the mesh will block quite quickly and then the rest of the muck it collects builds up and falls to the bottom of the filter housing.
To be honest the noise has increased due to the increased air flow but its only intrusive on 3 & 4 and I only use them for de misting

i did mine when I had all the scuttle panel out to reseal the brake servo plate, previous one had never been changed in the 6 years but at least it is done with the fungus smell gone.
