ive been told by a few people that jetwashing your car on a regular basis can damge the paint and also cause flaking of some alloy wheel finishes. just wondering if there is anything to this as i jetwash my car about every 14 days, and if damage can occur then id rather stop and do it the old fashioned way.

I jetwash every 2-3 weeks and have done for the last 6 months, I haven't noticed anything. Whilst one of my alloys do look rougher where I scuffed them, thats probably down to me or the brush I use, :dontknow:

Power-wash as long as used from about 2m away should be fine - I use it to get stuck on crap off such as on bottom of the doors, wheel arches insides and under skirts etc etc then I just use one of the guns you can stick on hosepipes then sponge it down

I dont think jet washing your car will be a problem m8, as long as you dont hold it right up to your wheels/paintwork! I think the idea that it damages paint work is probably true on old rusty cars, where the water can get under the paint and flake it away, but on a new car, no sweat!

nah jet washes are excellent its only the savagely powerful ones that can be hairly.

just go carefully and it wont matter

Right, again I will say it, don't listen and you will suffer the consequences.

Do NOT Use pressure washers on your car. The water jet very quickly strips your car of it's protective polish and basically wastes all the effort you put in. In addition to this it has also been know on many occasion to actually remove from the body panels, and more importantly the plastic panels on your car.

iirc the last person to turn round and say 'Yeah but mines fine and I wash it all the time' was GR44 who cam back in less than 48 hours wishing he had listened as strange enough the pressure washer removed the paint from his bumper.

Use them if you want, but why pay thousnads of pounds for a car then abuse it?

Trust me you are doing damage and risking gretaer damage using them

Stop at once, and don't get me started with washing up liquid!

hahah yeah agree with the fairly liqud,

but i doubt the low pwer pressure washer can make a differance mine just like mist!

mine is not powerful atall its just good for clearing the clumps of mud and grit on the surface WHICH THE HOSE WONT DO. if ure careful then im sure it must be fine right?>

well tractors must have pretty good paint on them, cos we have an industrial pressure washer. 3000 psi at work and we wash the tractors once a week. nothings happened to them.

That was hilarious when he showed me that, pissed myself laughing as I Said Kash said not to use it.

When I do mine, I do a wash with Meguiars soft gel wax, then use the quick clay and then the 3 levels of paint cleaner, polish and wax.

Kash also told me not to use washing up liquid, thats when I converted to Meguiars

my mate has got one, it saves drying the car off with a chamois after cleaning tho, which is a ballache!

the filters are stupid expensive though, but he does "borrow" them from my work when im on the till lol! :D

If you want to save on chamois work then just get one of those filters that you attach to the tap you are running the hose from  Or buy (de-)ionised water  Simple as really

I washed my alloys once with the jet wash as i was fed up using the alloy brush in between all the spokes and it took the paint off the centre caps so i always do it the old fashioned way now and use some elbow grease. i wouldn't recommend it.

sponge & bucket is best, bit of elbow grease never hurt anyone

i jest mine once a year under arches and stuff to remove any salt and **** left from winter ! but wouldnt do it on a regular basis as that much presure cnt be good for it ! people use them on bricks and it takes a layer of it of to bring it back to new so imagine wat it soes to ur paint !

Polyglaze gel and Meguiars wax dose a nise job I just hose it clean with the garden hose first to get all the sand off and then bucket and mit. Ends up looking a treat

sounds interesting - where can you get them from?

Doris

Not sure chief - There's usually an advert towards the back of AutoCar

You just whack what looks like a big tube (the filter) onto the tap - then connect that up to the hose - Costs about £30 I think and lasts for so long before you need a new one - I buy one every 6 months or so

Basically it's exactly the same concept as the flash car wash thing but better becayse you don't have to use their crappy gun and shampoos :D

Never used a powerwash or a carwash in my life.

Good old hose-pipe and bucket & sponge.... Less damage and marks that way !!

I have my own power hose and I use it about 3 times a week. works a treat I tend not to go close to paintwork but I go close to wheels to get rid of brake dust and stuff. I have an irmcher kit and i get close to the stainless steel exhaust do you think that is a bad idea? It is nota jetwash but it is reasonably powerful. I also use a bucket and sponge the power hose is just like a normal hose to me. Whats this about Washing Up Liquid? I use that all the time as well lol nearly about half the bottle every time I clean my car? was always planning on using car wax shampoo but why pay £15 a tub when you can use your mums washing up liquid for free as much and as often as u like lol?

cheers
