View Full Version : Fitting 6x9s
Anyone got any ideas where I can mount some 6x9s, other than the parcel shelf. Considering making a fake floor like I had in my old car. Also, can 6x9s be run from a standard Vx headunit?
Cheers folks.
dont know wher else you could mount them mate but yes they can run from standard headunit. Ive got mine running from standard head unit as well as door speakers and im going to wire an amp to both of them still using the standard headunit!!
You seem to have a lot of projects going on with your car at the mo mate??
i dunno where to begin!!! lol. exhaust is being made as we speak, wheels will be bought as soon as credit card comes, and looking at getting some SRI grills 2mo. day off so gonna have a day of Corsa related fun! are you running ur 6x9s instead of rear speakers?
I wudnt run them off standard head unit myself though..ur better gettin a decent head unit, the quality difference is immense! Also, think about gettin coaxes instead of 6x9s if ur plannin to get a sub in the future.
And sound wise the best place will be the parcel shelf
yeh just change the wiring round!! Running off standard hu still sounds very good in my opinion!! yeh thought you had a lot on the go!!
has the speaker wire for the rears got enough slack in it to run it onto the parcel shelf? can i use screwdrivers to get the headunit out?

Yeh definetly agree that the sound quality is so much better but if you havent got the money or are building a sound system part by part ive found it to be fine!!
Yeah but u shudnt run high watt speakers off low watt input, ive been told many a time it can damage them!
Also what good is 4x20W to anyone!
And u dont use a screwdriver to get the head unit out, u need double din stereo removal keys!
ooooooo, anyone near me got one i can borrow for an ickle while?! dont really wanna buy one!
hhmmmm someone else fitted mine so i cnt remember!! I don't think there is but not entirely sure because I think that the wires have been extended. Bit to cold to go and check!!

Think I need to whack in a new headunit soon as then!!
Yeah, u can get a decent 4x50W alpine head unit for about £120!
Id recommend alpine any day anyway, but ive heard JVC are also very good.
yeh i ordered the sony f7750s or summit like dat but the comapny messed me about so much ive given up and i want a refund!!
Thanks for advice anyway mate
ah good chance to ditch sony n go alpine then:P
the wires that run to the rear speakers...... what path do they take in the car? ie where do they run?
if u put ur hand in the holes either side of the parcel shelf then u can just pull the wires out! theres not much slack on em so u will have to attach the new wires close.
ok, but im thinking maybe about making some 6x9 enclosures to put in the rear footwell either side facing inwards. hard to explain but need to know where i can pull the wires out from.

dont the speaker wires run down each side were you take out the door trim bit with the like holder thingy. If you dont wanna buy clips get a wire coat hanger cut in 2 jam each end in the two holes on ither side after you take out the screws with an allen key and pull. You could probly put 6 inch speakers in the rear side pannels like in the new astra not sure how much space behind them but its an idea.
In the corsa there isnt a massive amount of space behind them! And getting that back trim off is a ******* of a job!
