theres a few options. if u can run a pair of phone leads ( that have a headphone jack end) to the back of ur hu that would work or if u have an Ipod, theres a gadget called an Itrip. all that does is plugs onto your Ipod and transmits an FM frequency that u simply tune in on the tuner. For sum strange reason tho there ilegal in this country but can get them off Ebay.Ill get sum pics up of mine

if i did consider changing my headunit, are there sony headunits that would let me control the mp3 player with the stereo controls rather than using the mp3 player controls?

sorry but its the truth. those fm transmitters are illegal under the Broadcasting Act of 1990 and youll also notice a lot better quality sound with a new 4x45w or 4x50w headunit rather than the stanard 4x20w

flipping eck - anyone would think i'd never bought an aftermarket stereo for a car before

the reason i would prefer to keep the standard stereo is due to
1: it's the one that came with the car
2: it works with the steering controls
3: is less attractive to the theiving eye
4: is loud enough for me in all honesty, i'm getting old now

by the way the sony mp3 player i have is this one (http://vaio.sony-europe.com/view/ShowProduct.action?product=VGF-AP1L&site=ite_en_GB&pageType=Overview&category=VAIO+Portable+Players)

FM transmitters arent bad, but the quality isnt the best. The alternative is to run a lead into the iso block where the telephone mute is. You will only get mono sound unfortunatley but it will be a lot better quality than an fm transmitter!

fm frequency and itrip are both sh1t, do not buy one if you like music, especially loud
fm mods cost the best part of what a new headunit does and you can probably get around £40 for the old headunit anyway, for £100 you can get decent headunit with aux in
need £20 for adaptor plate and harness adaptor tho

sony headunits dont do that yet, but I would say, make a couple of in car playlists and just stick them on when you leave or when your at traffic lights, you dont wanna be browsing thru the collection while your driving even if the hu does control the tracks

Hmm, FM mods are a cheap alternative for a lot of people tho, u can pick them up for about £15... and no Headunit is that cheap:P

they are **** quality. ive heard one its not even FM quality despite being marketed as an FM transmitter. they are also illegal under the 1990 broadcasting act.

there are buddy.... ive done it just recently!

sony head unit, a wee connects2 device (that connects between hu and mp3 player) and the mp3 player :) mines all works thru controls on the hu and on the steering wheel :D have a look at the link ok my signature.... the bit that says Sony hd3 20gb... :P

depends what you have tho? mp3 player wise?

the easy option is the fm transmitter, but the quality is 10x better when cabled up :)

bit of a hijack, but does anyone know if anyone does something similar for a creative zen micro?

D4VO J

dont think there is any support for zen micros, u wud have to use a aux in cable and change the tracks on the device
