View Full Version : Rear speaker problem, help!
Im not a big i.c.e guy but one of the back speakers in my corsa is really annoying, when the bass is up the plastic above it vbrates loads and it sounds crap, when i push down the plastic by adding pressure the vibrations stop, the other speaker at the back is fine and te plastic above it doesnt vibrate, i need to know how to stop the plastic vibrating so i can keep the bass relativly high any ideas??
Oh by the way they are the standard vaux rear speakers, i dont really want to change them as they will be fine if i can just sort out the vibration because the other one is good enough for me, your help would be great.
I may in the future change the rear speakers, what size are they, how much are some low price ones and how hard are they to fit?? i dont want to cut into the parcel shelf just maybe replace the vaux ones
cheers
Theres no point replacing em, just wack some on the parcel shelf. The only way u can replace the standard ones is with 10cm ones, and its just not worth the ballache trying to do it, trust me ive been there!
And the reason they sound crap...is cuz they are.
but one of the back ones is fine and the plastic doesnt vibrate i just need to find a way of stopping the plastic above the speaker from vibrating!"
ok well a screw holding the speaker on is probably loose, but to get at them u need to take practically all the back trim off, which requires a full torx screwdriver set and a socket set with a full set of torx bits, not to mention about 2 hrs of ur time!
Its easier to get new speakers in the shelf!

you could cut out the grille above the speakers and get to them that way
trust me, u wudnt want the standard back speakers on show...
may take it to the local vaux garage and see if they can reccomend anything?!

theyd probably reccomend you piss off or gibve them 100 pound to "sort it out"
if they annoy you that much just disconnect them, use a jigsaw to cut two holes in the parcel shelf, buy the cheapest spl **** speakers you can buy and stick em in theere.
anything will be better than those standard rears

There is a solution to this problem.
u need to stick ur hands up those tiny holes underneath the rear side bits, then with bluetack in ur fingers, try to jam as much of it in between ur speaker and the plastic bracket. Its not easy, but i did this previously and it did work. Alternatively, take all the panels off and change the speakers, which is what i did.
beware, your hands will come out with cuts/scratches/red marks all over them.
johnny how long did it take to remove all of the back panels fit the speakers and fix it all back together??
Ive had all the panels off before now when i first wanted to change them.. took me just under two hours a side...
I am still under manufacturers warrenty, do you reckon they would sort the problem out for free even though its quite a minor thing
i dont kno, depends wot exactly the problem is!
I know what it is, i just cant fix it, basically the speaker is fine, the one on the otherside is fine too, its just that the casing around the speaker seems to be loose so it vibrates under bass, if i put pressure around the casing the vibrations stop and the sound is ok again, so its just a question of stopping the speaker vibrating the casing
The casing cannot be loose, it is completley joined to the speaker, the speaker and its plastic adaptor are 1 piece

2 hours per side?!?! WHAT?! well actually if ur talking about changing the speakers aswell, thats about rite.
what u need to do is remove the plastic at the back edge of the boot (about 4 screws) then u need to undo the rear seatbelt bolt (a large torx screwhead is required for this, i bought mine from halfords) then pull back on the clips holding the white trim around the top of the rear panels, to remove those large white panels. you will be exposed to all the screws holding in the boot speaker panel. Then remove the rear seat hinge thing, undo all the screws and it will fall out of place. if u know what ur doing, which u wont coz u never done it before, but if u do, it takes about 10-20 mins to remove. to re-fit, is just the opposite. I think give it an afternoon and u will get it sorted.
