ANNOUCEMENT: Server Going Down

This is exactly what I posted in the admin lounge......
- So everyone is reading the same thing including staff!!!

Its hard to explain all the details of whats going on... however the guy we lease the server from is convinced someone has attempted to hack etc..

I dont want to go into too much detail about it as it will take too long to explain etc...

The server we have is perfectly fine... it has been great since we got it BUT i admit over the past few weeks to a month its been a nightmare. And once again soon as something goes wrong people think **** it we need to move... This is NOT the case!!

The guy has updated all the software on the server and brought it upto the latest version including a few security fixes... he has been very helpfull and its not even his job to do that as its NOT a managed server!!!

We now have to see what happens tonight and see if what he has done has had any effect at all... as its normally in an evening when it goes down etc...

I for one think (and after speaking to Si so does he) that soon as he did all the upgrades last night etc.. the site felt better straight away and the admin panel was actually accessable without waiting 15years for the main page to load. This does NOT mean its fixed but I am hoping its a good sign.

All I can do is keep you updated on all of this and will also copy and paste this for the members to see.

Its definatly the forum database thats making the CPU usage that High... as the person we are leasing from showed me the details!!

I believe its something to do with table locking and I also think its something to do with PMs... I am going to look more into the database tonight and see what I can sort out etc... So be prepared for all your PMs to disapear :| :lol:

One of the reasons its something to do with PMs is that, that is one of the tables that is locking and also if you notice when you sign into the site and have a PM in your inbox unread that it takes alot longer for the site to load than if you dont have one.

The site is now back online.... Still unsure as to exactly whats going on... however the more myself and David (from the server company) look at it, it seems we could have been hacked !!!

We have done all the updates we can, and one of the tables that was hacked was the PM one hence why you do not have any PMs and they all had to be deleted!!!

I am hopeing the site doesnt go down... however I wont hold my breath :lol:
- I will keep you all updated the best I can. PLEASE be patient I really am doing my best to get it sorted!!!
