how do people get a perfect circle when cutting the sub hole in their installs (mdf installs)
am i right in thinking that a router could be used to do this???? i need to cut two 12" holes and a smaller 4" hole... and am trying to work out the most accurate and tidyest way of doing it....
Cheers
Joe
get a bit of string, a pencil and a pin. put the pin in the middle of where you want the hole, set the string to the radius of the hole then tie it to the pencil. That will give ya a nice circle that you can then just cut with a jigsaw

yea, drawing the circle was easy...
but im crap with jigsaws hahaha
lol, give it a shot, mdf is nice n cheap
load a 12" diameter ball into a cannon, and fire this into the MDF.
Failing that, router it for a PERFECT circle. Although if your sub will sit in it, no one will see the circle.

so i can rout it?? hmmm. i prefer that idea becasue i know it iwll actually be round lol..
hehe.
im liking the canon idea.,.. but my neighbours wont... but it would allow me to use my canon though...
Dont cut right on the line and just sand it done to get a circle.
MDF is cheap but i know what you mean want to get it right first time.
dont forget to wear a mask and do it out side. the urea-formaldahyde is carcegenic... -it kills ya

fpmsl
i cut mine to 12" and my sub didnt fit i had to make it 11" dont know why, but the 12" size my sub was moving around ??
yeah when you buy the sub, it tells you what cut out size to make
That's the reason why i didnt use a cannon, mine was 11.7" for my 12" sub - and they dont make 11.7" balls :(

lol. well i have bought the materials... and have measured everything out... and am just waiting for some nice weather when i am not working, to finish this off.....
oh andthe nearest canon ball i coudl find was 11'4 or 11'9 so the jigsaw it is...
cut the hole really slowly and slight smaller than u need, then use a file after 2 make it rounded and 2 the perfect diameter u need.

Well i would say i do it for you as im good with wood but your in Wiltshire mate, so im afraid not, but jigsaw it out like other fella's have mentions and then file it and use a bit of glass paper to make it nice and smooth and also are you covering it in carpet or any other material.
Any pic's once finished would be good
