Ive often thought about this too. I think its quite a big job that will need new door cards unless you want holes in the standard one ! :(

alright guys, i just done this a couple of weeks ago and it is totally worth it. changing the whole door is pretty stupid and more hastle than its worth. all you need is the electric motors and regulators for each door, switches for windows and mirrors, door cards, wiring looms. i got everything i needed for it from the scrappy for 100 quid.

just a case of swapping everything over and by changing the wiring loom it makes it really easy and keeps it tidy. the only other stuff i needed to buy as well as this was some rivets to fit the new regulators and flashing tape to seal up and soundproof the door which cost about 27 quid.

may as well upgrade to electric mirrors while your at it since you've got all of the wiring anyway.

if anyone needs more help/info pm me and i'll do my best to help

where did you put the switches?

craigSXi
29-03-2006, 18:15
where they normally go. got all the door cards and adapters to house the switches so it keeps it looking totally standard

Ian
29-03-2006, 18:16
Did you have to take the whole dash out to get the loom?

craigSXi
29-03-2006, 18:36
no nothing like that. if you open the door fully you will see the loom running between the door and the car. the bit you can see stays its just the bit it connects to in the door that is replaced. not hard to do since its a standard shape that clips into the door, just a bit tricky since there's not much space to get your hand in

how do you get the old winder mechanism and the new electric mechnism into the door? what happens to the glass while you do this?

Also, i have tried connecting my electric loom and it seems no power is getting through. I remember someone talking about the bcm or summit, so i was gonna bypass the loom and just wire it myself to a source of ignition live. So did you also have this problem? I will be tacking this task sometime soon, when the rain clouds piss off and the sun comes out! :D

if you've got a haynes manual that tells you how to get the existing stuff out. basically the regulator is held in with 8 rivets, so drill them out and it'll come off. easiest thing is just to take the glass so as not to damage it when your working. its not hard to do either. new regulator fits right into the door and use pop rivets to hold it in place. drop the glass back in and build it back together.

don't bypass the loom as thats a **** idea and makes it a bit messy. so simple just to replace the loom. i got told the bcm had to be reprogrammed but that was rubbish it didn't.

when you connected the loom did you put a fuse in the fuse box? schoolboy error. 20A for the window lifers and 7.5A for the mirrors and it should work no problem

NO WAY!!!!!

OMG! WOW! if only i knew that a little while ago when i actually tried it! LOL! I swear someone said summit about the bcm, but i will double check with the fuses!! Proper skoolboy error! ok, thanks a lot mate, will def give that a go! howz the glass come out? do you just remove all the rubbers around the frame and it will come out?

Now it really does sound like a piss easy job!! :D nice one!

mine is a 51 plate thing is vxl looked on that connector inbetween the door n car n says the wiring isnt there for the leccy windows n mirrors n that it would have to be totally wired up from under the bonnet all the way to that plug, before i can even think about putting the leccy window stuff in the door, IS ANY OF THIS TRUE OR B***OCKS

what model do you have mate since mine was a 2001 Y SXi and it was ok. the wiring going from the car to the door is there. it's just the wiring that is actually in the door that isn't there so this is why you have to upgrade the door loom, which will have the extra wires for the windows and mirrors. maybe vaux were just trying to be robbing b****rds by charging you to wire it all.

craigSXi

really don't see any reason why it shouldn't be there since all the wiring from the car to the door should be put in on the production line, it's just the looms and wiring in the door that would change depending on what electrics it had. it was a 250 quid option for all models back then so should just be the same as mine.

2001 Y Reg Corsa Comfort does NOT have the wiring loom for electric windows or for electric mirrors!

I had to wire mine myself which was a bit of a pain but easily done once i knew which switch wire was for what and where the power went! I connected power to the cigarette lighter power so it runs off ignition! only problem i have is the speed of the windows going up and also sometimes the function where it goes up/down on its own after a long press, sometimes it works and some times it doesn't. I think its just the wire i used though...

yeh the start of it in ur door, you would have to unplug it from the door, and get the elec wire loom, which has 2 extra plugs for windows and mirrors. i only just the window plug, run out of money to buy the other motors. but yes

craigSXi
26-04-2006, 13:26
should just get the loom that does the mirrors so its in the car if your going to do it. means its there if you decide to upgrade. mirrors are only 35 quid tops for the standard corsa ones so not that dear. what did you do with the plastic sheet on the door when you put it back together btw? did u stick it back on or rip it off?

corsa boi
01-05-2006, 13:55
i cut it off at the top and sides with a stan knife and taped it back up using duck tape.

Killer Corsa
04-06-2006, 21:53
probably but i got an idea in mind...

u see in my car there aint the loom there for the electric windows, am not talking about the door am on about the whole loom behind the dash, so for me to fit electric windows i have to rip the whole dash board owt and replace the loom with an sxi or summat but me has an easier and more affordable way,

and when i do it all put step by step instructions up on how to do it :D
