View Full Version : help with removal of vx headunit!! URGENT
i have followed the tutorial but i cannot take out the braket, i have taken out the torx screw on the back but i cannot slide it out, how do i do this, urgent help needed!!
also if anyone has an alpine, how do you take off the front harness/cage for fitting into the slot before sliding in the headunit
there is little metal clips all round the alpine unit pull them all up at the same time it will slide off
I think you have to put the alpine keys in the alpine head unit, should be supplied and the cage will slide off.
SpeedX, those bits are when you are putting the case into the dash ;)
i dont think i have any alpine keys?
i still cant remove the factory fitted cage even though i have taken out the back torx screw what else do i need to disconnect before removingit as it wont budge!
also with the alpine unit wen u push the little black bits up on the side, do that realse the back suround or does it release the whole grey cagearound it aswell as i odnt know whcih bit to pull off
really need some help!! does anyone have a mobile number that i can phone?? :(
i know for MY apline hu, you dont need keys to remove it... just lift up two lil black clips, and it will slide out...
to remove the vxl cage, sqaush it at the top in the middle, and then it will pull out. it will "un-squash" if you pull it about when its out... but you dont really need it again anyway :)
thanks martin; when you push the two black things up
does that mean the black surround becomes loose or the whole cage with the back thing aswell?
the cage stays in there.. you have to bend this (just like you'll have to with the vxl one) to get it out.
dont worry they wont break, your meant to squeeze them about to get a really tight fit, otherwise it'd wobble and fall out
i slid the vx unit out but the last bit wont budge pat the gap!!?? do i just need to yank it, it feels like its to big to get passed the gap
so we have to just take off the black surround around the alpine unit or does the silver bit on the cage come off to cos in the manual it says the cage must be taken off and then inserted inot the dah before the rest of the headunit is, sorry for all the questions but yo can help me as i did that shop for you yesterday! :)
what i did was take off the heater surround above it and wedge a knife between the palstic and the cd player from the top, so the knife was pointin dwn, and worked it out tht way, u need to have 4 things pushed in the slots as far as they can go, u cnt break it atall this way so push push push
im totally confused... lets deal with one hu at a time...
the vxl hu is out, but the cage is still in correct?
if so- unscrew the torx bolt at the back.
the cage should have a flange around the out side of it, so it wont push back any more. it is here you sqaush it down...
push the top/middle part of the cage down about 3"
then it will wobble out
yer i have done that
its slid out almost all the way. but the back of the cage is catching on the hole in the dash so i cant get the last bit out?
wish i had a cmera could takke pics but its not with me
should i just yank it, still need to know bout the alpine too, god im wishing i paid for someone to fit it now!! i feel i have to finish it now tho,i have shed blood doing it so its gotta be finished!!!
If its a cassette vauxhall headunit then dont worry about it, on my last C I used a claw hammer and just yanked, ripped half the insides of the stereo out before the whole thing actually came out and my neighbours thought WTF!! lol if you bend the cage inwards from the sides it kinda collapses and comes out without any damage to the car, just the cage..
the cage is now out!!! wuhoo, ok so now i need to know bout the alpine headunit, when i pull the black things up which beit should release, the whole cage around the alpine unit, or just the front black part??
oo i have taken the alpine braket off now too, just need to wire it up, what is this about changing cables over??
do i just swap the red and yellow cables around that are into the block connecter?
dont have a clue how to swap these over?!
just plug it in, if it doesnt work properly with your ignition swap the wires then re-try.
just installed my new alpine HU. i didnt recieve any keys with mine either. i think mine gone wrong lol. the HU is angled upwards. the top parts go in fine by the bottom two bits wont go flat??? its seems to be stuck aswell, it wont go in or come out!! shall i just leave it? i mean the connections and player works fine

Alpine headunits dont use keys, they have two little pegs that clip into the cage on either side to release it.
Did u fit the rubber bit on the back before installing it btw?
yeh i did yeah, i think i must have missed the hole in the dash? possibly..
also were these pegs supplied?
ok ive sorted it now, i managed to pop out the whole fascia along with the HU in it, was easier than i thought. then i just put it back in. worryingly easy to take out tho, just a simply screwdriver and bit of force?
